Philadelphia is an hour/hour and a half away from the Lehigh Valley. You may not want to ride into the city.

I definitaly suggest visiting the Crayola Factory in Easton. It is a very colorful, exciting place and kids even learn things there. 8 year olds are noramlly curious, imaginative and creative....so the Crayola Factory is one place you definitaly do not want to miss.

hope this helps!
good luck and have fun!

It would take me a week to see so many things worth seeing in or around Philly, so I do not know what to tell you but look around, you are loaded with history which all 8 years olds should know. If you like sports, there are so many I wish I chould walk in your shoes for a day.
