This is basically an existential question, and can be answered with a simple, basic existential answer, "life is what you make of it." You are capable of making your own choices, you are capable of making the choices that will lead to further inquiry and answers (pragmatism) you are capable of understanding the consequences of your actions, and learning from them to improve your life. You are capable of believing what you want to believe, and capable of changing those beliefs if you find rational evidence that would cause you to change those beliefs. Aristotle said, "A life of contemplation is best." It is good to question from time to time what your personal meaning of life is, because that means you are stepping back to reflect objectively on the life you are living now. This gives one time to contemplate on whether or not they are making the right decisions to leading a fulfilling life.

80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.

I've come to two conclusions recently:

1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.

First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.

Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.

You could watch the Monty Python movie "The meaning of Life"

This is what I've come up with so far. We are born into bodies and we are trying to navigate through this world and are trying to figure out the purpose of it and where we fit in. It's probably a test for our soul (if you belive in such a thing), We are always trying to obtain pleasure and avoid pain by our animal nature, but our spiritual nature tells us that there are situations where avoiding pain at any expense is not Godly and that obtaining pleasure at any expense is not Godly.

The meaning of life is being in tune with God. Now you can shoot me down in flames - but, like the phoenix, I'll be back! Go well and God Bless!

There is no meaning. Why does there have to be? Where are here. Make the most of it before you are no longer here.
