no there is nothing legal or illegal about it, it's just a commitment two people share within their own relationship.

Engagement is a "moral" commitment made between a couple who are planning to get married, law has nothing to do with that part of the process, however you can't be married at sixteen or if you do plan to get married I think you need your parents consent.
So no, being engaged isn't illegal.

it depends on where you live for it to even be illegal to be married. Most states and most provinces just require parental consent to marry under 18. i.e. that home alone kid got married at 14.
My question is this, at 15 and under why would you want to be engaged, life holds so many opportunities, twists and turns, that maybe at that young age, you can't see, but i was engaged at 17 and glad that i never followed thru with it, its much too young.

Of course it is. It is not legally binding.
Can get married in most states under the age of 18 with a parents consent.

not illegal. Be engaged as long as possible. You don't know what someone is really like till you live with them.

why would you want to be engaged right now you are only 16 years old? if you and him really love each other then wait. when you get older you change. finish school first and figure what you want out of life first.

It is not illegal, but if your mate is 18+, and you are sexually active, he could get in trouble for statutary rape. Even if you consent, your under your parents guidance, and if they find it offensive they could press charges.
