Yes, it works with itunes. You can get iTunes for free by going to apple.com. If you get an iPod, you'll get a CD so you can download it onto your computer. And yes, you can put CDs onto your ipod. You just copy them onto your computer and then itunes will put it in your ipod.
Oh, yeah, and there are 5 types of ipods. one is the shuffle (no screen) the other is the nano (very small, and apple just remade it) the mini (it think it's slightly thicker than the nano), the photo ipod (you can put pics on it) and the video ipod (you can put movies and stuff on it)
The video ipod has the largest memory, but can be around 300 USD. The shuffle is the cheapest, but has a smaller memory (around 1G, compared to the video's 30 or 80 G). I don't know about minis and nanos, but you can go to http://www.apple.com for more info.

You only have to pay for songs that you buy off of iTunes. You can put your CD's into iTunes and onto your iPod, you just put the CD in the drive and click import songs. iPods are really very easy, you just have to play around with them a bit to get the hang of it.

Your iTunes will automatically recognize your ipod and will try to copy as much music as it will fit into it. If you have too much music it will volunteer to pick for you enough to fill it up. If you have a mac it will also let you carry your contacts and calendars.
You have to pay for music you download from the iTunes Music store or from the TV or movie stores in iTunes. Whatever you by through this is locked so you can only use it in up to five computers at a time, so you won't be able to share them as much as if you ripped the CDs yourself.
When you pop a CD with iTunes you can rip it on the spot, which will then be copied to the ipod the next time you sync it.

They are good but my according to my experience, very sensitive. I had to service my ipod nano after only two months of use! You can incorporate your own cds into your itunes library but you have to pay about £0.79 for each track if you want to buy tracks on line
