I hear alot of people talking about how good it would be to impeach Bush, if there were to be a Democratic Congress. Would impeachment really be a good idea for democrats, if this happens? If you get rid of Bush, Cheney is president. If you get rid of both, somebody like Pelosi is president. You can be sure that such a power play to put such a liberal democrat in this position would surely fire up the republican base, turn off independants and virtually assure a republican president in 08 and possibly republican congress. Wouldn't it be smarter to keep Bush in for 2 more years?

I would rather have him tried for his war crimes.

When the Democrats take over Congress this November, Impeachment will not be necessary. They will then be more able to stop his crazy policies, before he does any more long-lasting; damaging decisions.
Impeachment does not necessarily mean Bush would be removed from his duties. Impeachment along with very strict economic sanctions makes a lot more sense, on the political scene, to keep a Republican from winning the Presidency in '08.
Much as I loath the idea of Bush remaining for a whole 2 years more, I have to admit it would be politically smarter to keep him in there, with the stipulations pointed out above.

You have part of that right, but I think there is a feeling among the Democrats that got hid of Nixon with the impeachment threat, but look what happened after wards. What did it end up giving us, years of exile and absolutely no change in the Republican Party for the better, in fact, they are much worse.
On the other hand, if we can win the House in Nov., then impeachment might be worth it, or impeachment might just be a good way to tie Bush's hands for the next two years.
The question is, Is Bush stable enough to continue as President for two more years under the increased pressure of impeachment? Or would Bush snap and do something even worse than he has done already? Think about it!

No, it would be an utter waste of time and money, cause the clown is gone in 2 years and a wake-up. And if the Democrats were to do that, they would simply alienate the moderate Republicans out there and probably push Bush's approval ratings up.

It didn't work for the Republicans and it won't work for the Democrats. These boneheads in Washington just need to focus on real work and stop playing to the cameras.

Impeach him for what? The war? Half the democratic leaders voted along the same lines. That would be the most two-faced move in American politics.

I think it would be wiser to impeach Ted Kennedy for Chappaquiddick. Then I'd have respect for the democratic party.

Impeach him on what charge?

Pelosi is not the next in line to be president even if both the president and vice president are removed from office.

Your question is far too speculative.

No. I don't think it would be wise. What would that say to our enemies? We are impeaching the president who has made fighting terrorism the centerpiece of his administration? The Democrats might celebrate with joy for a while, but it would hurt their longer term prospects.

It's a very simple equation.

Bush has said that as long as he is in power, he intends to do whatever he thinks is best, regardless of what the laws say. Because he does not consider himself bound by the laws, the only option to stop his abuse of power is to remove him from power.

And yes, that means removing Cheney and Rumsfeld too, at least.

{EDIT} Links below summarize grounds for impeachment.

i never thought about that. i don't want bush in office but i'm not sure cheney will be any better. cheney is a moron too, basically Bush's parrot. he even stated that "it's not a coincidence we haven't had an attack on U.S. soil since 9/11"
for god's sake Cheney! wake up you idiot! we haven't had an attack simply because no one has tried to attack us again on U.S. soil. well anyway, Cheney would probably be the same as Bush. and i don't like either. so i guess we'll just have to sit it out and live with this decreased standard of living that Bush created for us, until 2008

This beast has many heads. Impeaching one person is not the ideal solution. We are definitely in a muckity muck situation.
