Pets have many benefits. They reduce blood pressure, stress, and most people become more responsible. Pets are friends, collegues, and more.

That said, pets are great IF you're prepared for one. This means having the time, money, and effort to devote to a creature that will be totally dependent on you for its well-being.

To people who are unprepared, pets ARE overrated and are a burden, both emotionally and financially.

My favorites are 'pocket pets'---rabbits, guinea pigs, rats, hamsters, and so on. These animals are sometimes considered 'exotics' for veterinary purposes, but are actually far less intrusive than having a dog or cat. They're easier to care for and usually cheaper, considering they don't need vaccines, licensing, and so on.

My absolute favorites would be rabbits or rats. Both can be incredibly affectionate and trainable. They're quiet, generally clean, and they don't require constant attention (if you keep them in pairs, which is highly suggested), which can be exhausting if you're just fed up with your day and just want to go to bed (hey, it happens to us all). You can hold them, play with them, and be entertained by their antics. Rats are particularly ideal for people not ready to committ to a dog, cat, rabbit, or any other animal that can live 10+ years---as they have a particularly short lifespan (2-3 years) to which you'll be obligated to provide for their needs.

The choice, however, is a personal one. No one can tell you what kind of pet YOU want. You certainly have your own favorites. The best thing to do is to research all you can about them and decide if you have the patience, money, time, and effort to take a pet on.

It all depends on how much work and responsibility you want to put into your pet. Dogs need a lot of time and attention, they also need daily walks and a yard (preferably) to play in. Cats are more independent and can be left by themselves for longer periods of time. But they also require love and attention as well. If you are not up to the responsibility then don't do it. Pets do take time and energy and money (for food, vets, toys, etc.).

Pets will change your life forever if you let one into your heart. I love most animals but cats are my favorite. If you adopt one, please go to a shelter, I'm sure you'll find one that you'll strike a bond with right away. It's best to keep your pet inside away from all the dangers of the streets. They are so much fun.

No! Pets are great - but they do take work. If you're not willing to invest the time and expense to take care of them, then just volunteer when time allows. Cats are probably the least work - but should still be INDOOR pets.

I have always had pets since I was little, I've never been without a dog, I also like hamsters and budgies, it depends how much time you have to spend with them, dogs need lots of attention, but smaller pets need less.

pets are absolutely great! some owners are not. if
you do not want the expense or work involved then do
not get a living anything. pets are a lifetime commitment
so if you are not up to it don't even go there. there are
a great many who should get a mechanical or virtual
pet and let it go at that.

Pets are great! They provide lots of love and amusement. I love dogs, but they are a lot of responsibility. Cats are easier and basically take care of themselves.

Both cats and dogs are a big responsibility but I think they are worth it. I have 2 of each and would hate to live without them.
