My school is having a career/internship fair next week. I need an internship for next summer, and my internship director said for most companies I had plenty of time. I am not interested in any of the employers who will be at the career fair. Should I go anyway? Or should I just wait until the next fair in the spring? I'm not asking anyone to make a decision for me, just asking what you would do.

I would definitely go! It's important that you at least start getting your name out as soon as possible. Even if you may not have any interest in any of the companies, its really good experience. A lot of recruiters like to ask questions and can help you on a later interview process. You also might find something very interesting that you didn't know. Like for example, a company like Proctor and Gamble might be there. You may think, "oh, Proctor and Gamble", they are gonna show me Tide or some other detergent. But when you get there, you might see a totally new side of the company, like trying to engineer a new product. This is also a great way to network. Remember, its not always what you know, but also WHO you know. If not any of this stuff, at least go for practice, that way you'll know what to expect at the next career fair when a company you ARE interested in comes.

And, on a side note, if that doesn't entice you, you can also get a lot of cool free stuff (t-shirts, balls, pens, freebies). I remember my last career fair and I came away with a lot of stuff, including a free 256 Mb USB Thumb Drive.

I wish you luck!

Yes, you never know if there will be an internship position that would interest you unless you know the internship positions available. In addition, it can give you an introduction to the internship process by networking and asking questions of the company representatives. I also recommend attending the one during the spring. Another good source is searching the internet.

You should go, you never know. You may not be interested in the company persay, but the internship your looking may be there. And so of those companies my pay you a stipend and some may not,. I dont know what state your in or your major. Your main concern is doing your internship where need be. So please go to all career fairs that you can. you never knw what to expect you might come across exactly what your looking for.

You should go just to see what's available and what people are offering. Just walk around and pick up some materials.

I think you should go and check them out anyway.
Maybe you'll see something you didn't expect.
