depends on if you are at the coast or inland. If you are at the coast you should leave. If you are inland, board up your windows to protect from flying debris breaking them, keep your car gas tank full, do this well ahead of everbody else trying to get gas, use premium if that's all you can get without delay, fill up your spare gas containers, prepare for the unavailability of food, dog food, bathing water, drinking water, transportation, electricity, gas, prepare for no information, prepare for looters and thieves because there will be no law inforcement, prepare for possible fire because there will be no emergency services available, get plenty of prescription medications filled, prepare for injuries and house damage and temporary repair of windows and roofs. Prepare for at least two weeks of nothing. Stay put with a shotgun and guard dogs, listen a few times a day to the radio for information and have plenty of extra batteries. Keep in touch with your neighbors for more local information.

LISTEN to what the police and weather professionals are telling you. If it's bad, evacuate.

I'm glad I live in the Great Lakes area where we don't have hurricanes. We have the occasional tornado, but at least you can possibly hide from a tornado.

get supplies, food, water, wood. Then board up the house. leave if neccesary, and i mean to a shelter, if its a really bad storm, your mayor will tell u if u need to evacuate the city or not. Dont be stupid like my fellow Houstonians!! Its almost geographically impossible for us to get hit with anything bigger then a catagory 3
