If the rest of the world was prejudice & racist they'd feel that way.
But thankfully, racism isn't half as bad as it was. Don't get me wrong, you still have your racist people; but so many people have seen past the issue of race and learned to love people outside of their ethnicity.
Remember it's about who you love, not who your family loves. They can only figure out what is right for them individually. Love is color blind and has no limits, if you want to be with a black man, you should be able to do so and if they would stop talking to you then it's their loss not yours.

I don't know much about Muslims, although they do seem to be a very closed-minded, judgmental, and violent people. However, I can tell you that in the US, you would find widespread acceptance of such a marriage. Here, it's not a big deal at all.

Would you family be embarrassed because he is black or a non-Muslim? (or both) I don't think that the world at large would care, certainly I wouldn't, because you have to find love wherever you find it. You just have to make a decision for yourself, not your family.

What matters is how you feel. If you think that you could be happy enough with him to spend your life with him at the risk of losing connections with your family, then your happiness is what matters. In todays day and age, there is no room for closemindedness.

Why on earth does the color of a person's skin cause such a reaction? Would that damage your family?

There are certainly places where people would not accept your relationship...even places in the US....
Generally in the more cosmopolitan areas you would be very accepted.
The more education people have and the more that they have seen, the more they would accept you.
