"It is difficult to get a man to understand something when his salary depends upon his not understanding it" -Upton Sinclair
Not actually my favorite, but one I heard recently in regards to why so many in our government act from a position of denial when it comes to the welfare of our country and well-being!
I believe it applies in other contexts as well-what people will do and close their eyes to-choosing greed over integrity.

My favorite quote came from a 2nd. or 3rd. grader(I can't remember which ,it has been a long time ago) The students had visited a hospital I worked in. They were to write a note to the employees about thier visit. This little boy wrote simply __
" I knew some of you,and I hope I acted good " This struck me as a quote I would like on my tombstone. I will never forget this little boy and the innocent honesty of our children. We would all do well to look to our children for inspiration and example.

My favorite of late is one from Gandhi:
"Whenever I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love has always won. There have been tyrants and murderers, and for a time they seem invincible, but in the end they always fall. Think of it -- always."
As angry and frustrated as I get when I read about what is going on in the world, this quote is for me like a ray of sunshine piercing the storm clouds. It reminds me that, despite the sometime willingness of people to allow themselves to be led by tyrants into the darkness of ignorance and savagery, most people eventually come around to the realization that they actually prefer the light of truth and love.

May the fleas of a thousand camels infest the crotch of the person who messed up your day... and may their arms be too short to scratch. Anonymous
This just cracks me up. I am actually a collector of quotes and love things more serious and profound, but this just makes me laugh.

I have two. The first is a poem by Kahlil Gibran
If of thy worldly goods thou art bereft, and of thy slender store two loaves alone to thee are left, sell one and with the dole buy hyacinths to feed thy soul.
The other, also by Kahlil Gibran is:
Does the song of the sea end at the shore or in the hearts of those who hear it?

"To err is human, to forgive divine". Renee Descartes
I like this quote because it is simplicity and truth. We all make mistakes, we will all continue to make mistakes. If we forgive each other, we can go on and learn from our mistakes rather than pay for them for our eternity. Also, it reminds us of our "human nature". We will err. The divine, or God, will forgive.

"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing" Edmund Burke.
I love it because it keeps me true and active. It cleaves me to a strong path of helping others and fighting injustice by any means other than violence

"Yesterday is but a dream, and tomorrow is only a vision, but today well lived makes every yesterday a dream of happiness and every tomorrow a vision of hope"
I dunno who said this, but I really like it.
This isn't really a quote, but it's still worthwhile to read.
"When I was in grade school they told me to write down what I wanted to be when I grew up.
I wrote down Happy.
They told me I didn't understand the assignment,
I told them they didn't understand life."
-- From the Memoirs of St. Butch

"All great achievements require time" - Maya Angelou
I like it because nothing worth having really comes overnight. Some people think that lottery and casino are achievements. They are just luck.
