Montana...count the rings, baby!

The very best I've ever seen - and I've been watching football for a long time - from High School, to College, to Pro - the progression, mind you - is Peyton Manning.

Peyton is going to go down as the greatest ever. He's like an assassin on the field. He has all the knowledge - and when something bad happens, he immediately learns from it and makes defenses pay for it the next time. He is the king of the play-action fake, and of the audible. I'll bet he has the IQ of a genius - to be able to get up there and audible two and three times in a complex, pro-set offense and to get it right every single time - to be able to read defenses before they even completely form and make something big out of nothing - that's as close to genius as you get in the NFL.

I think he'll be followed closely by Dan Marino, then maybe Joe Montana, and possibly Johnny Unitas. Throw in honorable mention for John Elway.

Those guys are the very best of the best. The rest took some time to get to where they are - Favre was not great in college, and didn't start out great in the pros. Nor did Steve Young. Troy Aikman almost didn't make it through college (he was a sooner for a short time, then he transferred to UCLA).

Joe Montana. Only him and Terry Bradshaw have won 3 super bowl MVP's. Not only could he win, but he could win when it mattered most.

Who could forget the 90+ yard drive he put together to win the Super Bowl against the Bengals with time running out.

That's a real tossup between Doug Flutie and Koy Detmer. Those 2 are unbelievable! I'm making this short, so i can enjoy a bowl of Flutie Flakes. Go BIlls. For real...Jim Kelly
