one thing i've heard is that you shouldn't go too long at a time without eating, as it makes the sickness more severe. make sure to just keep snacking a little at a time throughout the day. and before you sit up in the morning, try keeping some crackers and water by your bed, to get something in your tummy before you get up.
and CONGRATULATIONS!! it's such a beautiful miraculous experience having a baby! God bless you and your little one! :)

This happens a lot to women in the first trimester. Some carry on vomitting into the second and even the third trimesters.

There are some practical things you can try - but not every option works for every pregnant woman.

One, which has already been mentioned is saltine crackers. If that doesn't work, ginger might. However, ginger is well known for staving off nausea in those who are prone to motion sickness, and isn't ideal during pregnancy (it can bring on contractions if too much is taken into the system).

If you're open to homeopathy (alternative medicine) - you could try one dose of Pulsatilla 30c (one pill and DON'T repeat the dose *unless* the vomitting comes back. Then only one dose again.). Generally, Pulsatilla is what has been indicated in my pregnant patients' and it has worked beautifully. (It can also aid during delivery later on - if labour stalls...or other complications happen).

As an aside, when you're nearing your due date, you can start drinking Raspberry tea. This will help bring on labour without harming you or the baby and it's a very soothing drink. Don't drink it before your 38th week, however.

If you crave certain foods - go ahead and eat them. However, if something doesn't agree with you once you've eaten it -- steer clear of it. If it agrees with you - then eat it all you like. Make sure you're getting plenty of green veggies - as you'll need the Bvitamins. And be sure to take a niacin supplement.

Lastly, be sure you keep your bowels moving regularly (daily!). If your bowel gets sluggish - you will begin to experience all sorts of unpleasant symptoms (headaches, nausea, general malaise, skin symptoms, odours, etc). If you find that pregnancy is somehow affecting your bowel for the worse, then take some fiber every morning - followed by 1 8oz glass of water (don't forget the water, or it will bung you up!). Making sure to drink a minimum of 8, 8oz glasses of water per day.

Ah, one last tip. If you get heartburn at any point -- you can take one teaspoon of cumin powder (yes, the spice/herb!) - mix it in water and gulp it down. It gives instant and safe relief for heartburn and in no way harms you or the baby.

I would steer clear of over the counter drugs as they could be harmful to the baby.

Hope this is of some help. And, I hope you have a smooth pregnancy and safe delivery.

have you ever been nausiated before over any illness? With that I will tell you find a food that will comfort your hunger as well as your vomitting. meaning when I first got pregnant all I could do was vomit. I tried Taco Bells pinto beans with sourcream. It held.Unbelievable but the sourcream too the salt out of the food that allowed my stomach to handle. I know everyone is different and many will tell you crackers and such but why not just try sucking on a chip. Most Dr. will tell you crackers or maybe even prescribe you something but you know yourself better than anyone. I would suggest things like mashed potatoes (small amounts at first) Watch your salt intake though . Then I would suggest small sips of juice . Something that has some vitamins in them as well as not being bland and thin. Try some hot jello for instance. Dont add cold water to it and drink it slowly. It has natural fruit juices in them and also sooths the inside. just some ideas and wish you the best of luck.

It's individual for every person. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a single thing that really worked, except eggrolls. If I didn't get an eggroll in the morning, I'd spew every fifteen minutes on the spot from the time I woke up until noon. From noon on, I was nauseous and nothing helped that. Just keep trying various and sundry carbohydrates. I do NOT recommend that nausea medicine. Didn't help me. I got to the point that I'd cry every time I saw a toilet by the time it stopped. I'm sorry. :( Hope you find something soon.

Firstly congratulations!
I sympathise with you by 12 weeks I remember crying to my husband saying I can't go through with this! So I do understand!
Some people however have hyperemesis, which is really severe vomiting during pregnancy! If you can't keep anything down you may even need a hospital admission for dehydration! My friend suffered with this and I was also in hospital with a lady who had it! They can prescribe anti-sickness drugs, but really I think try not to get over tried ! I was always more nauseous when tired! wear anti-sickness bands! They do help!
I also went to an osteopath and had a bit of cranial and other osteopathy and I swear by that, she said she could feel bits that were making my nausea worse! It really did help!
Also eat a dry biscuit whilst you are in bed before you get up that really helps!
Keep your sugar level up, don't go 4 hours between meals, just keep grazing! Low sugar levels make nausea worse!
Arrowroot biscuits are good!
Just listen to your body and eat what you fancy!
Good luck, when I was really bad I used to watch programmes on infertility, it made me stop feeling sorry for myself and realise how blessed I was!

Honey - I feel for you. I was sick for 9 full months during my last two pregnancies.

My doctor told me to eat Captain crunch cereal DRY - he said that it is so full of vitamins and minerals that even if you throw up within 5-10 minutes your body will be able to absorb some of the vitamins contained in the cereal. It worked! I still threw up but I got a little bit stronger each day because my body was getting some nutrients.

Also, I could not take prenatal vitamins. They contributed to my sickness. My doctor said that I could take a childrens vitamin that contained iron - I took Flintstones chewables.

Another thing the doc told me to do was buy some over the counter sleep aids (talk to your Doc first). He said that this will not hurt the baby and it will help to relax your stomach muscles so that the urge to vomit is less. This is the thing that helped me the most. I felt like a new woman after taking them for a couple days.

Good luck, and hopefully one of these tips will help you!

Hi - Is it morning sickness. This worked for me. BEFORE getting out of bed have a cup of tea and a couple of dry biscuits. I found if I did this before getting out of bed it worked, if I got up first then had it I was vomitting or feel ill all day. Cant tell you why but it worked. If its not just morning sickness then try sipping ginger beer or warm water with ginger in it again with a dry biscuit. Also I had a week of sickness every hour on the hour, not nice but thing of the end result. If it last too long though see your doctor. Good luck hope everything goes well for you.

Having nausea is normal. I know you know that. However it doesn't make it any less annoying.

The good news is all that throwing up means you have a good healthy immune system and hopefully that will be passed on to your baby (breastfeed).

Back to the original question... leave dry unsweetened cereal by the bed and before you even sit up stuff a few in your face. I preferred cheerios.

Eat smaller meals and eat unsalted saltine crackers. Sip don't gulp your beverages and that should help some too.

I hope you feel better and congratulations mommy to be!

Good LUCK!

Sometimes, nibbling on ginger pieces helps. But for most of us, if we are actually vomiting, there is little we can do to stop it. It is exhausting, I know. Hopefully, by week 16 it should have calmed down a lot although some of us are not so lucky and I have a friend who was still throwing up as she was giving birth. It is very important that you get enough fluids and that you manage to keep some food down, difficult tho this may be. I suggest you speak to your Dr or midwife to make sure you are getting enough goodness to look after you and your baby.
