Do you really want to act cool, or just be cool. There is a difference, acting cool is imitating a way of what you think you and others think is cool, but you really aren't being yourself, being cool is being yourself...not everyone will think you are the bees knees but that's life.
There are different kinds of cool, people can be cool for being fashionable, doing the latest etc...or you have others that might not have the following of sheep but they are cool for having there own unique way of dress/or way of doing things/humor etc.., something which makes them stand out from the crowd. People admire that but don't necessarily follow it because that's more of a natural coolness they have been born with...some people have more of it than others but everyone has individualism so find yours.

When will people learn that there is a difference between looking/acting cool and actually being cool? If you want to come across as cool, you should do something cool, what ever you think cool is.

You can't. No one is cool, the people who think they are cool, usually are stuck -up morons who think they are better than everyone else. If you really want to impress people, then BE NICE TO EVERYONE. Instead of just talking to the 'cool' kids and the 'in' crowd, then talk to everyone. Then you will have tons of friends and in everyones eyes you will be 'cool'.

Sorry girl. You can't act cool. If you have it in you, you do. If you don't then you don't. In my opinion no one is cool and the people who think they are, are just idiots who think they are better than everyone else.

Don't act. Be honest, open, kind, and real. Be sensitive to others situations. As you make this who you are, others will find you pleasant to be with. Which is what you really want.
