Most research on dreams shows that dreams are important for processing information and categorizing memories. Most dreams will involve worries and events related to the previous day. So, it isn't uncommon for dreams to involve alternative outcomes or hoped for outcomes.
As to dreams seeing into the future. The best and most likely explanation is that we notice those few times when they appear to predict the future, but ignore all the times when they don't. So, if you have 100 dreams, and 2 of them seem to predict the future, you will see that connection, but ignore the other 98 cases when the 'prediction' was wrong. This is how horoscopes work (you can give 10 people the exact same horoscope and they will all think it applies to them because we all LOOK for the similarities).
Sorry, there is no real evidence of psychic phenomena. If you think you are psychic, there is a million dollar reward waiting (if you can prove it).

I think dreams are often a compilation of subconcious thoughts within the mind.
You subconciously absorb a lot of information throughout the day that you don't know you're actually taking in.
I think dreams may be able to give you insight onto things in a very natural, normal way in that your dreams can tell you things about you and the world around you that you were not conciously aware of.

Most people consider those "premonitions" and not dreams. Dreams are the result of the super-ego rearranging the thoughts in your head into a pallatable form. Premonitions are the result of the sub conscience expanding due to total relaxation. In 10% of the human population, premonitions come true, but are casted off because no-one believes in "psychic vision".

Most Certainly, but mainly, dreams tell you your inner most thoughts about certain things, it can mean your body is telling you something, desires...you have to pee...That stuff, but yes, they can most definately tell the future.
