A mainstream person is someone who jumps from trend to trend so that they fit in with the rest of the crowd. Mainstream is being what society thinks you should be, and look like.

A Chicano is a Mexican American. You don't have to be born in Mexico to call yourself Chicano. There have been people of Mexican Heritage in the U.S. since before the U.S. even existed. There are also many people in the small isolated mountain towns of Northern New Mexico and Southern Colorado whose roots go back to "Spanish" Colonial times. These people identify more with Spain and do not consider themselves Mexican or Chicano. Remember, most of the Southwestern U.S. (including California) belonged to Spain for over 200 years before it belonged to either Mexico or the United States.
