you mean feed and shelter the lazy

And yes, we do do that. It is called Welfare. There are enough programs out there. I irmly believe, that anyone who goes hungry above the age of 18 is lazy. If you can;t afford to eat, one call to city hall, and they will send you every food bank that is local and you can get some one to help you.

We have trouble feeding and sheltering the poor because a) people that don't need it are taking advantage of the system, b) some people are not aware of the help available to them, c) some people who are homeless actually have huge sums of money hidden away from begging and actually prefer mooching to real jobs, d) the poor are uneducated and some of them don't have any skills to make them employable/desirable and make no effort to alleviate that fact...

I could list you a million reasons we have trouble feeding and housing the poor. We can feed and house them. We do. But there are a lot of poor. And we have not spent trillions of dollars on the war effort. Also, it's the war effort that's keeping these poor alive in the first place. There are too many factors to pinpoint one cause for any one thing when it comes to the government and a populace as large as that in America.

Oh, you hit it right on the nail-head....!!

Trillions may be stretching it a bit but the point is well taken.

Cynics say that the war somehow have to benefit someone or some country with say - oil - etc... That's not true.

Warring nations get into the act without thinking. Yes, without thinking - and it is emotional.

Afterwards they wish that somehow someone will step in and stop the whole thing. They just don't have an exit strategy.

The same war-money could be well spent on the needy. You are so right. We have so many issues that need immediate attention and actually, very little money compared to the spending on war.

There is so much foot-dragging and soft-pedalling on these issues that it is so pathetic.

But war? Yup, next day....ready, able and willing to spend.
Ironic isn't it?

You don't get rid of the poor by writing checks. After spending trillions on the poor, why do they still exist? Defense budgets are the cost of doing business in this world so get used to it.

When will Liberals ever learn.

Simple, because the benefitors of spending trillions of dollars on war are corporations and people who are friends of the president. Spending that money on the poor in no way benefits the friends and campaign donors of the president, therefore it's not worth spending that money on the poor. Remember, the poor don't matter, only powerful rich people matter.

If we got rid of the poor and oppressed, the DNC would lose almost all of its voting base. All that would be left is college professors and the truly lazy. If their programs actually helped poor people, and remember we had 8 years of Clinton to do this, they would be out of business. Don't fool yourselves, the Democrat programs do more to keep the poor down than anything the Republicans have done.

Instead of asking what the govt is or is not doing with its power & money, think about what YOU are doing or not doing with your power & money to feed & shelter the poor. Talk is cheap! Making a difference will cost you everything.

There are no hungry and homeless, except those that choose to be. There are literally thousands of organizations, from federal, state, and local governments to charities, churches, and community groups that provide for these people.

You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink. Some people are just too lazy, proud, or stupid to get the help that is available.

Yep, daily.

For those who think there are adequate programs for the poor, I challenge you to drive through rural Louisiana or Mississippi. Get off the highway, and you'll find entire towns that haven't been rebuilt since Katrina...Mostly because they had so little to begin with, that there's nothing to rebuild. You'll find children who have NEVER been to a doctor, because their parents can't afford even the bus ride to the closest clinic. You'll find entire families who literally live in lean-to's, and can't get shoes or eyeglasses. It's still there, and the programs are clearly not adequate.

Everyone, including the poor, has the responsibility of feeding and sheltering themselves. That's hard to understand in Eurotrash socialist economies, but it's an undeniable truth.

Forget the poor and homeless. I want to know why education is cut. And we wonder why our kids are falling behind the rest of the world. Answer to that problem, lower standards and get them out of school.
