Asking for a translation of a latin inscription on a cushion I was given as a present.
Turned out it was actually from Horace's poem "Poetry" but with the words all completely scrambled up. Bizarre.
I guess that's a really good example of what this site is for!

"Se hai cognuto castelli in aria.."?
With an incredible display of piss-puir Italian, I asked if anyone could tell me who wrote "Se hai sognato castelli in aria, nulla e perduto.. " And to my horror, not only did I mis-spell it in the language I first heard it in - I also discovered it was a quote from an American philosopher. How could I take heart in an American philosophy?! It changed me, really.. I needed answers fast. Which is why I am now at level 5 and still quite appalled at my stupidity.
