Paypal is an electonic money transfer company trying to act like a mini Bank of England. I had a very horrible experience with them. If soneone sent you money via paypal, you will not be paid until you have given paypal details of your creditcard. the idea is to charge the sender a fee, charge you the receiver another fee and then charge you again for tranferring the money into your bank account.

If you don't have a credit card to verify your address then you will have to withdraw the money by instalments over 3 or 4 months. Again, the idea gives paypal the opportunity to continue to use your money and earn enough bank interest on it before paying out to you if you are lucky.

It doesn't matter whether you identify yourself with a British passport and bank statement, Paypal requires that you identify yourself with your creditcard details. I can't believe that this kind of scam is allowed to run legally in this country in the face of the FSA.
