I'm Welsh. Born in Newport, grew up in Cardiff, now live in Caerphilly.
As for the name Owen - Its OK but I'm not crazy on it because I know so many Owens. I also have a cousin called Owen and I know someone with a baby boy called Owen.
Makes me thnk of Owen Money (very unfunny Welsh "comedian" ) too!!!
Its just another of those names thats used to death in Wales - Owen, Gareth, Rhys etc. I went to school with half a dozen boys called that!! I guess those names have little Celtic/Welsh magic for me because I associate them with the fat spotty lads I went to high school with rather than handsome Celtic warrior types!!!
I'm having my first baby - its a boy and we're calling him Arthur. I couldn't think of a Welsh name I really liked. I quite like Ioan (simillar sound to Owen) but I just wanted something very different and original. Welsh names tend to be so popular in Wales (obviously). Plus my BF is English so I wanted something that represented both cultures rather than just Wales. As Arthur was the "king of the Britons" it was fitting and unusual too.

A lovely name, our great nephew is called Owen, we have family that still live in Wales so he was given his name to keep up the Welsh connection, is your Owen a cheeky beauty like ours is.
