The topic sentence tells the main idea of the paragraph. The rest of the sentences in the paragraph give details or examples to support the main idea.
The topic sentence is usually the first sentence in the paragraph but it doesn't have to be. Here's an example where it is the first sentence:
I had a great time at the beach this summer. I splashed around in the waves. I built a sand castle. My brother and I collected shells.
Notice that the other 4 sentences give details which tell you more about the topic in the first sentence.
Here's an example where the topic sentence comes last:
In Spring time, everything seems fresh and new. The flowers bloom and make the air smell nice. I usually get chocolate and jelly bean Easter eggs. I get to wear pretty dresses. Spring is my favorite season.

well with it u begin every paragraph and as the name says it should state the topic of that paragraph...after that when u continue writing paragraph u must stay true to it as much as u can...NEVER state anything that isnt closely connected to it...paragraph should just be an elaboration of the idea that topic sentence carries.HOPE THIS HELPS U!

Usually the first sentence of a paragraph, summarizing the major points going to be discussed.

Well usually it is the first sentence of every paragraph... but it basically just describes in one sentence what the whole paragraph is about... hope that helps...

You list the three main topics in a sentence. And you do it in the order as it is on your paper.
For example:
In this paper I will be discussing blah, blah, and blah.

generally, the first sentence in a paragraph that let's you know what the whole paragraph is about.
