I believe that the myth of the ghost originated from one of the simplest and quite common human defects: hallucinations and delusions of the mind. Some adults may have used the ghost as a scare tactic against children to discourage them from wandering alone or going out at night. Or just to scare them. Perhaps one day, in ages past, the elder or leader of a village told a story to all the children of the village, of beings that came to be known as ghosts or poltergeists that lurked in the depths of night, waiting for unwary prey. Then those children would grow up to perhaps believe that things such as ghosts truly existed, through means of burning beliefs into their minds at such an early age when their minds are open to new knowledge. You see, I believe the ghost not to be a horror or a spirit, but a belief that has been passed down and implanted into our minds ever since the concept of otherworldly, supernatural spirits came into the mind of man. Thus being so, the story of the ghost is much older than anyone would expect. Out of caring and loving for their children, adults or parents long ago probably planted the idea of a ghost or bad spirit into their innocent, open minds. Then that belief sank in, and soon as they grew up they may have started to see what they believed to have been ghosts or spirits, only to be mere delusions and hallucinations created by the mind. For example, people with paranoia, schitzophrenia, or even high self-consciousness see things that aren't really there, due to the condition they are in. One of the things that they believed to have seen may be the ghost. Thus, the very origin of the concept of the ghost can be found in the minds of humans, the delusions we often tend to have, and often tend to mistake for something real.
Then again, some events have gone unexplained...

I am confused as what to say, but I will share something that happened to me months ago. I used to see and talk to my grandmother soon after she died. Eventually when I was 14 or so, I could not actually see her but only feel her presence and hear her voice. Now I can only feel her presence around me. My mother who suffers from severe depression says she still talks to her and when she feels sick (she has cancer) she says she dreams gram ma holds her hand and wants to take her away. About 3 months ago we went to the psychiatrist, I had to translate for her as she does not speak English and upon she saying these things to the doctor, she said mom suffered from delusional psychoses. I said but doctor, I used to experience the same things and I still feel my gram ma's presence, and the doctor actually ordered some MRI for me and when the results came back I was normal. My mom was put on treatment, and upon asking an explanation as of why did I experience these abnormal things the doctor said "I am afraid I don't have a logical answer".

The truth FOR YOU depends upon your beliefs about life, about life after death, about your higher powers . . . Anyone can tell you anything, and they will tell you according to THEIR beliefs and/or experiences, and these will be truth for them. What do you believe? What do you believe is possible? Probable? Do you believe in Goddess? God? Have you looked around, researched for what feels right in YOUR GUT?
- I believe I have seen ghosts, experienced their presence. What do you believe?

I belive ghosts are people imagining thier lost ones in a "ghostly" form. Perhaps the mind has trouble letting go and imagines these people. If it's a non-relative ghost then it is fears from the mind, generating these images.

Yes. Ghost is another word for spirit. When a person dies their spirit is released, but they don't wander the earth like they are portrayed in the media and myths.

Yes. But they can only interact with you or hurt you if you let them. I hate to bring this up but God said not to tempt the spirit world because the ghosts are really demons in disguise. If you see a ghost walk the other way and ask God to protect you.

Yes, they are VERY real. They are not delusions, hallucinations, and not all are demons. They are simply disembodied spirits. Sometimes they DO walk the earth, to let loved ones know they are okay, or to watch over family and friends.
Yes, believe!! They are real!!

I definately think so! oh man.
my boyfriend's roomate's dormroom last year was haunted by a girl named sarah who committed suicide out the window. One night my boy n his roomate took a weegie board (i don't know how to spell that.. i know its wrong) and this ghost girl was talking to them, telling them how she died, her name, that his room used to be hers, that she likes him but hates his ex girlfriend and that he should get over her because she is a bad person and on and on. These two boys are my life and I know.. they aren't just making this up.
Believe what you want.
