The industrial revolution needed a concentration of workers, so they offered better wages than farming so that workers would come into the factories. But they manufactured things (like ploughs, and cotton gins, and metal tools) which let the farms produce the same amount of food with less workers anyway.

Mostly it's because of the shift away from an agrarian (farm-based) economy to an industrial one. As fewer farms were needed, more people took on jobs in industry. These jobs necessitated a move to urban centers because that's where the work was.

All good answers, but don't forget, With the industrial revolution came a transportation revolution. We were able to get the food from the farms to the cities. That made it possible for our excess population to concentrate near the point of industrial production. (Too intense?)

There are more career opportunities in big cities. No one wants to farm anymore, eventhough I bet they make big bucks. But I guess you can say were kinda going back to smaller communities called THE BURBS. Most people live in suburban communities, not big cities

It all started due to the Industrial relvolution. People left their rual communities to seek jobs in towns and cities.

Better for businesses because you can sell more, you can get more jobs, and when a few people leave for that reason, the rest have even more of a reason.

farming became less and less profitable... and inconsistent because it varied with the weather.

so people moved to the city to get better and more regular pay.

also, young people tend to go to the city in search for bigger challenges and adventure that their parent's farm/village.
