What are all these Yanks doing answering UK questions - more imperialism?
Your question is actually based on inaccuracies. You can drink at 16, even on licensed premises, as long as if it is with a meal. Also parents can allow their teenagers to drink at home and not be breaking any law. You can only get married at 16 with parental permission - if you don't have that permission then you have to wait till 18. You can have a baby even before 16 - any breach of the law is not related to giving birth but to so-called statutory rape, in that a female under 16 legally cannot give consent to sexual intercourse.
The law is not necessarily a logical framework. It's developed in a piecemeal fashion. Thus the age at which someone becomes an adult was not considered in the light of other age-related matters like driving cars (17), smoking (16), being in a bar where alcohol is served but not food (14), and so on. For that reason there will always appear to be inconsistencies from one law to another, as well as disagreements among people as to what would be a more logical legal framework.
Welcome to the world of reality - it's full of confusing legal rules, which don't always make sense.

You don't have to be 18 to drink, you have to be 18 to drink legally, hence, this is usually the reason girls are having babies at 16!!!!! And how many do you actually think are married?????
You Americans do not have the monopoly on this site, I know damn well that the legal age for drinking in this country is 18 so stop getting all aggressive and telling everyone that it's 21. Hello wake up stupid we're not all Yanks!!!!!

You can get married at Gretna Green in Scotland at the age of 16 WITHOUT parental consent. Elsewhere in the UK you need both parents permission (that will be the bride and grooms if you are both 16)
16 is the legal age of consent to have sexual intercourse so if you wish to, you can have a baby. Although everyone seems to be starting younger these days.
As for drinking I think the age for being served alcohol should be raised to 21. I think teenagers should concentrate on being teenagers for a bit longer and have a lot more fun (sober)

No offence intended, but can the Americans out there who are answering the UK questions please appreciate the fact that the laws of your country do not extend to the rest of the world !
The legal drinking age is 18 because it creates a different set of circumstances and consequences than marriage and breeding. Although you do need parental permission to marry at 16 you can do it because it is a decision that will affect you and your immediate family. The same applies to producing children.
The potential changes in your attitude and behaviour when you drink can have implications on the health and wellbeing of others. If you become drunk and violent in a bar or pub, you are technically endangering all around you, as well as yourself.

Your very foolish if you get married at 16 you are still a kid enjoy some of your life before you get married and have kids.. why be tied down when there is so much out there in the world to do.. like finish school.. you can always have a baby.. as for drinking.. because you should not start doing that .. you aren't grown up and grown ups can't handle drinking.. you kids watch that all the time.. don't you learn from what you see..
give yourself time to have some fun before you get into the grown up world. and have to make a living and take care of kids..
you don't know what you are missing..

you have to be 18 to get married and 21 to drink in Utah. I believe it is because the older you are the better choices you make. In your situation, you are less likely to cause a DUI at the age of 18, vs. 16 and at 16 you can get the heck out of your moms house and start a family on your own. But I wish most people had to ge threw a quiz or something before they could have kids. There are to many people out there relying on abortions.

Because the government thinks you are mature enough to marry but not drink, although the drinking age is 21, not 18

You have to have your parent'e permission to get married when you are under age. I don;t know about now, but when I was a teenager, parent's could also order or buy alcohol and their teen could drink it under the parent's supervision. I don't know if that is still the same, but it may be. Either way, at 16, most teens are not mature enough to be married or drink responsibly.
