The strip is a precaution taken by the treasury to attempt to reduce counterfeiting. However, counterfeiters are able to reproduce the strip as well. You'd have to look at all of the other identifiers to determine whether or not it's real, and/or take it to a bank and have them look it over. Why are you dubious as to the quality of the bill? Only take money from people if you know they don't make a practice of fabricating money.

That's the new money in circulation. It has a silver security strip on the side that says exactly that. Most likely, it's real.
