For songs relating directly to Viet Nam, Jimi Hendrix's "Machine Gun" - originally released on the album BAND OF GYPSIES - recorded live at the Fillmore East on New Year's Eve, 1969-1970. Hendrix, as a former Army paratrooper, knew quite a few people who had gone to Viet Nam, and of course quite a few hadn't made it back. He dedicates the song to "The soldiers fighting in Chicago, and New York (referring to the widespread anti-war demonstrations going on at the time) , and oh yes, to the soldiers fighting in Viet Nam" - the song really sounds like the war is happening right there, right then - Hendrix's guitar is amazing ! ! !

can't remember the name of the song, but Pat Boone recorded one that said "I'm on a little vacation in South Vietnam, an expense-paid trip for one - I got my own little rifle and a green uniform and a job that must be done - we're sleeping in the jungle and dodgin' real bullets and man, it's a lot of fun - wish you were here"...that may be the name of it, come to think of it...
