I hated Dodgeball. I was never very athletic and I couldn't throw the ball hard enough to even get to the other side. Not to mention kids are mean and I was always the one to get hit in the face. Of course the P.E. (or gym, whichever you want to call it) teacher never had a problem with this. It was a way for the teacher to be lazy and sit on his butt for the whole period. That's all my teachers ever did when we played.
There is a lot of physical activity in the game though. Between the running, throwing and "dodging" the balls. I still don't like it though.

The Feminization of America really pisses me off.
No wonder we have so many young men running around confused about their gender and sexuality.
First we can't hunt because deer and squirrels are "cute". They are not "cute", they are TASTY!
Then they subject young boys to pansy sports like T-ball, where everyone scores and runs around the bases, then co-ed soccer.
It doesn't surprise me that the Wimp dominated field of Education and Social Work has deemed the game of Dodge ball as "exclusionary".
What, because some pansy kid with a weak or absent father may be the first one tagged and start crying? Hell, that kid NEEDS some character building and getting shamed by the tough kids. And a burly, hairy dumb coach screaming for him to "...walk it off like a man!"

I don't know where you manufactured this "fact" that Dodgeball is considered a taboo. We played dodgeball all the time when I was in school. I was one of the non-athletic guys, and to be honest I had fun. it's just a game. Don't try to blow it up into some social problem that doesn't exist.

All of this taboo dodgeball crap is ridiculous. I don't understand why people feel the need to pick everything apart and ruin childhood games. Dodgeball isn't exclusionary - it's a damn game! Kids need to understand that their whole life isn't going to be leveled down to accomodate their weak points. By choosing to get rid of games that don't appeal to all the kids we are just telling our kids that when the going gets tough, we get rid of it and give them something easier.

I play a version of the game called "Kill the Piner" (we were the .... 'Piners') in HS. 1/2 gym, no official teams, 1 ball, no running with the ball or dribbling.
The "Jocks" formed a wolf-pack and bounce-passed the ball back and forth to get the "Sheep". I was the only one who would challenge them for the ball. I knew that they were going to get me eventually, but I usually got one or two of them first. One time I got three of them in about 5 seconds. I loved it.

I think it's a fun game for all kids to participate in and let's not forget, it get's them up, moving around and trying to keep ahead of the next step.
Keep it in play.
BTW, I was never really good at it as I was a timid girl, but, it made be keep aware of where the other kids were at all times.

Some of the my fondest memories of gym class were from Dodgeball. Of course there's always going to be the proverbial "bully" who crams the ball in your face, but they'd do that no matter what sport you were playing. Why let tradition die?
