Buh Bye 1/2 of Fordw workforce because Ford cannot compete due to UAW costs? HAHA Serves them deadbeats right. let them build cars cheaper and pay the workers the same amounts...only not have so much going to the corrupt union officials aka the DNC. How happy are you Ford workers now in what your union reps told you a year ago. Better learn to speak spanish and worship muslim seeing as thats all you people invited into Michigan. How hilarious is this fact that BUSH tried to warn them against years ago?

I used to belong to the Intnl Assoc of Machinists and Aerospace Workers...... 1983.... $7.00/hr, company paid Life Health and Dental, 12 paid holidays/yr, 2 wks of paid vacation and 5 cents every 30 days until you reached the top of your scale. THIS WAS 1983 and my coworker were grumbling about a STRIKE!!!!
It was at this moment that I realized that the union was it's own worst enemy and I joined the Navy. I've made more money and have been treated better at non-union jobs than in unionized shops.
I once worked at a place that probably DESERVED a union... I quit within THREE DAYS and found another job paying the same nearby doing similar work.
Unions have become their own worst enemy by demanding more and more during each contract negotiation and in exchange for more benes and higher pay the company and its shareholders receive less in terms of productivity increases guaranteed by the union.
As far as "what kind of car is in MY lot".... nothing... used to be a 1996 Plymouth. But that is besides the point. What is an AMERICAN car? I contend that a TOYOTA that is made in America with American parts by Unionized workers is just as American as any Ford (whose Festiva is nothing more than a relabled Daewoo) or Chevy with parts and labor coming from other parts of the world. So, my love fest may include a Toyota or Honda MADE IN AMERICA... as opposed to a Korean car relabled as a Ford.

The main problem with unions is pretty simple: it is always better to just find another job.
The idea of the workers be "against" the company and having to have other people "negotiate" from them is... less than fully adult?
If you take away the 4% of people who are between jobs, the U.S. is essentially 100% employed. When it is so easy to find a reasonable job, why not just keep looking for one that has at least minimal respect for you as a worker?
I know if I was running a company and the workers tried to create some organization to try and force me to do... anything, that I would want to fire all of them on the spot. Is that teamwork? Is that trying to do your best for the company that is paying your bills? Why would this sort of behavior prompt better feelings between workers and management.
If you make something into a war, you had better be prepared to lose at worst, and at the very least, waste a lot of time and energy bickering.
Any company that doesn't know that treating workers REASONABLY is essential to productivity is going nowhere fast: move on. If you want more than to be treated reasonably, then you are still in need of growing up.

Have you considered that maybe Ford's financial difficulties arise because people don't buy their cars? Ford's market share is projected to be 14-15 percent in the near future, down 10 percent from 10 years ago. Noooo, it's the union. BTW, what kind of car do you drive? When you go to your conservative love fests, what kind of cars are in the lot? Hope there aren't any Toyotas there!

Feel better after your diatribe? Hope so.
I am a union supporter even if I disagree with many of their pet projects, namely Democrats.
Unions have made workplaces safer, have made it so people are not indentured servants, have paved the way for labor laws, and have helped make the U.S. the great nation it is.
Unfortunately, there is some corruption, as it happens anytime there is power ("power corrupts"). It did not help that a few decades ago, the UAW bent over backwards to fill positions with underqualified candidates just because of their racial backgrounds. That's not to say certain races are inherently inferior. The fact remains that many dumb, dumb people were put on the assembly lines and quality went to sh*t.

Because some employers take advantage of their employees and the employees sometimes do not have anyone on their side to do anything.
