...we took her to the ER last night, as she was having problems swallowing. Followed up with the pediatrician today, and while she can swallow a little bit better, she still doesn't seem to want to drink anything except juice with ice in it. She is also listless at times and can't convey to us what she always wants. She currently is taking Tylenol, and received a Penicillin G shot last night. So she's good with the meds...

We've watched all of our TV shows, played with toys, colored, and the likes. Any ideas from fellow parents out there? Thanks...any help is appreciated!

Do you have any Pedialyte? That is also a good drink to give them. When my kids are sick, I give them the pediatric equivalent of Ensure. (Pediasure? I can't remember what it's called!) Ice cream is also a good thing when their throat hurts!! Poor baby...

As far as activities, sick kids LOVE Play-doh! At least mine do and the kiddos in our hospital. ;) Or maybe make some Jell-o together... If she's old enough to understand what you're doing. Simple, quiet activities are best so she doesn't get overexerted and exhausted. It sounds like you're doing a good job!! *Little prayer!*

Try giving her some Gatorade to make sure she is staying hydrated. Juice contains sugar, some added some natural...this aids in dehydration. If she won't drink the Gatorade, freeze it into popsickles or add a little to her juice. It will help replenish her body of the depleted electrolytes.

The injection works really fast, so she will start acting like herself probably by tonight or tomorrow morning. You will still have to push the fluids though, because she will still be weak.

If you have a new toy squirt gun, wash it out (really well) and fill it with the Gatorade and let her "squirt" it in her mouth. It is fun for her and it gets her to drink.

Unfortunately, I have had many years experience with this. Good luck.

pedialyte is great...popsicles....if she is running a temperature, i would stay away from dairy based products like ice cream as much as possible......maybe a new disney movie to watch? i see "Lady and the tramp" is out again for a limited time. just keep her comfortable and well hydrated, really, and i'm sure she'll be fine. Good Luck!!!

continue to love on her and let her have all the juice that she wants. As long as she is drinking she will get better...if she should stop drinking then you need to see her ped immediately.
