where there is water. Gulfs and bays are in the ocean, next to the coast, and are pretty much the same thing. Lakes and rivers are fresh water; rivers flow and lakes don't.

Gulfs and Bays in general are located along shore lines. Lakes and Rivers are all interior land features with the only difference being that rivers eventually make contact with shore lines or lakes. You can find them on most any type of maps, topographical maps are best. And you can also look them up on the internet by land masss searches. It depends on how you want to look for them. Good Luck!
