what would make a car start to put put around 45 mph?

not much info, but places to look are fuel filter, weak spark, bad fuel pump, clogged exhaust(catyltic convertor)

Check spark plugs
Air filter valve might need adjusting
Or you could take your car to a mechanic

Perhaps new ignition cables. Once the cables heat up they expand exposing the wiring which causes erratic behavior.
