No one owes anything USA (not America because there is north south and middle America ,leave it up to USA to co-op an 2 whole continents)
The freedoms that USA has come to stand for and ,attempted for better or worse to spread around the planet. Were built on the civilizations that came before the roman republic probably the seminal source but the french revolution was cited as a inspiration by many of the founding fathers. The Six nations basically had their constitution paraphrased in the US one and i believe they remain the oldest participatory democracy on earth.
For which the USA has annexed 90% of there territories despite Constitution and treaty guarantees that were supposed to make that impossible. So what is owed USA is no more than what they owe the world. they use there power and influence they have to maintain there power and influence and protect there own interests not out of some philanthropic desire to do good .
All that said as a Canadian i would not want any other Country to be beside than USA they don't do everything right but the people try it is when the people forget that power devolves to them and the Machiavellian Mandarins in Washington abuse the positions they hold is were the problems lie.At least that's how i see it from here God bless USA but don't expect us to not complain when u screw up because we expect more from family than from strangers.

Don't quite understand the last part of your question. But to answer the first part - America is not the only country with those freedoms: most of western Europe has the same types of freedom as well as UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and many others. But can we honestly say that the so-called free nations have societies that live "without fear of human rights violations"? Racial discrimination is rampant in the US. Ask a black man, korean, muslim, mexican, if they truly feel free and equal in the US.

I could only think of Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

You sound like the IRS or some debt collector.
Chill on the who owes who issue, and you'll be happier

France owes us because we fought against fascism in WWII and won.
We owed France for making the American Revolution possible.
Without the naval support from the French we would still be under British rule.

It's hard to say "who owes who".
It always changes.
The good deeds that America has done will not go unanswered.
Those good deeds done in WWII have made us into a superpower and leader of the free world.

Maybe you are right, but every country that HAS Civil Rights violations it is something that America HAS to do with also.
I really dont think is the US that have insured freedom to most countries, on the contrary many countries go backwards freedom-wise because of the US.
Now if you want to talk about WW2...well ok, you got paid and you served your customers. The UK paid you all the gold they had, so they are behind free Europe, you just felt like ok in sending your soldiers to die for gold.Like you do now for oil. When I see a bodyguard, I dont see a hero, I see someone who is paid to protect. WW2 was something you should be ashamed of and not something to make you proud. The Russians deserve credit for it, not you. You wouldnt send a single ship to come and fight in Europe until you had the last ounce of British gold. How heroic, I feel like crying!

Sorry, I just saw that in your profile, so I apologise even for answering to you...you dont deserve to listen to what I have to say because it is CLEARLY where you come from that defines you and not your character and whole-being. To me you are a by-product of bigotry and dead washed up brain. Keep worshiping your flag, if it gives any meaning to your life.
I have found out that there is a beautiful world out there, full of beautiful people and cultures and I am more than proud that I opened my eyes that young and I appreciate everything and everyone. Keep your personal god and values. I am really sorry for the circumstances you have lived through, because they clearly created another self centered, nazi-related delusional.

That kind of score-keeping is punitive to human interests everywhere.

The USA may have blazed a trail for a while, but our track record is far from good when it comes to respecting human rights, civil or otherwise. Taking a stance of superiority requires excellence in practice, and we are far from achieving that. And, taking a self-righteous attitude leads to complacency, which in turn leads to abuses of the very thing we got complacent about! As we, and the people who are suffering abuses at our hands, are learning, to our cost...

The world doesn't owe us anything. It gave birth to the USA in its time, just as it gave birth to other powerful civilizations. We're a product of humanity like everyone else, with all of humanity's strengths and weaknesses. Right now, the weaknesses seem to have the upper hand. If we don't wind up destroying our environment, or each other, then we might have reason to congratulate ourselves. I would say, the jury is still out, and will be for a long time to come, as to whether or not this country is good for the world in general.

Well of course! :-)

Seriously now, you mean the United States, not America.

You see America is not a nation America is a continent with many nations in it. The US never named itself the name of the United States is a designation it comes from the end of the Declaration of Independence, "WE, therefore, the Representatives of the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, in GENERAL CONGRESS, Assembled...". The preamble to the U.S. Constitution reiterated the phrase: "We the People of the United States..." (The authors of these two documents probably used the phrase "united states" in place of a list of colonies/states because they remained uncertain at the time of drafting which colonies/states would sign off on the sentiments therein.) The geographic term "America" specifies the states' home on the American continent.

It is therefor incorrect to refer to US citizens as Americans with the intent of denoting citizenship, or the United States as America with the intent of denoting a nation. Americans have a term for US citizens, we are called United Statesians by the rest of Americans, to say American with the intent of denoting citizenship or America when we mean the United States reflects poorly on our attitude towards the 70% of Americans that are not United Statesians.

That said, what has the US done to achieve freedom for any people anywhere? Other than the two world wars.

yes, it has gone too far.
everyone is blaming the wrong people for the wrong reasons.
your friends' son would still be alive if it wasn't for that clownmonkey Bush. it was Bush's decision to send troops into Iraq and soon enough, more young son's of America will die there because they are fighting a war that cannot be won by conventional weapons.
you are fighting an enemy who does not fight fair and does not care about innocent children. they will kill all who get in their way.

Bush is going to call upon more young men in America to fight for this war that is truely meaningless. Why do I say that?
because it will help nobody but his own buddies. All the contracts to rebuild Iraq will go to his golfing buddies and friends of Dick Cheney.

All your friend's mother will get for her son's death is a letter from Donald Rumsfeld saying how great her son was and it won't even be signed by him..it's a copy of his signature!!!

what an insult!

seriously, Bush is the problem.
those protesters are wrong for slamming the military..the military are just doing their job.
Bush is the problem because he's telling the military to go fight for something that doesn't make any sense whatsoever.
and what's worse is what's still to come.
Bush will draft more young men to fight in Iran in the next month or so when that war will begin.

I am an American, and your arrogance is embarrassing. The world doesn't owe us squat. If anyone else from any other country said what you just said, what would you think about them? You'd say they were nuts. How about this. I'm from Ohio. Where else in the USA can you live truly free. All the rest of the states in the USA should bow down to Ohio. Basically, that's what you are saying to the world.

Canada....we are the only nation in the world to sucessfully burn down your White House twice!! Without Canada to back the United States, the war in Iraq would be frowned upon alot more than it already is. But in other aspects we are two peaceful nations. We would be nothing without each other. Dont get me wrong the US is a wonderful place to visit with tonnes of diversity. Personally would not want to live there. I cant blame all americans for the war in Iraq, but i grieved for you guys on Sept 11th. I feel the pain you feel... The one to blame is that damned George W Bush. Not the american people. I wish more canadians would get that thought into their heads. God Bless America.

Well Switzerland did pretty well with the neutral thing, but you are right , our soldiers have freed more people from tyranny then any other nation in the history of time. We have been a force for liberation since our birth starting with our own. We have never been a nation of conquest, the Brits the French the Germans, Russia, now they could give classes in world domination. When we have occupied it has been has a rebuilding force, Japan and Germany look pretty good compared to 1945 thanks to US dollars and US troops. History will prove the same in Iraq and maybe in a year Iran will taste freedom courtesy of the RED, WHITE and BLUE.
