Green Day's American Idiot, Joe Jackson's Night and Day, and any DJ mix that uses crossfading has a 1 second silence when the music is placed on an ipod. Can this be fixed? Is there a setting?

My ipod doesn't have a crossfade option and I have not seen many mp3 players that do. I usually rip my entire dj mix album into one large mp3 file and then it plays without the annoying pauses.

Yes, it'll support any sort of CD. To fix the crossfading sequence, go to the sound options and you can set the amount of crossfade time, or eliminate it completely.

The newest iPods that were announced this week (the 5G iPod upgrade and the second-generation iPod nano), as well as iTunes 7, have incorporated gapless playback. Haven't fiddled around with it enough to see how it works, but I presume it does. iTunes 7 has reportedly turned out to be real buggy, though, so I'd wait till they release an update to it.

I don't know if the fact that iTunes 7 has gapless playback means that the feature will be somehow put into older iPods via a firmware update, but it's a possibility.
