It seems that every stupid political commercial I see on television always has the politician saying "and I approved this message" Is that some sort of law or is that just some bandwagon they all decided to jump on?

In the US, the 'McCain-Feingold' campaign finance reform bill include the following:

`(d)(1) Any broadcast or cablecast communication described in

paragraphs (1) or (2) of subsection (a) shall include, in addition

to the requirements of that paragraph, an audio statement by the

candidate that identifies the candidate and states that the

candidate has approved the communication.

The reason they say that they approve of the commercial is to say that is their own word. Anyone can come up with a commercial about one of the people running. It could be a bunch of lies. So that's why they say " I approve of this message".

I hope its a law. Those ones degrading Kerry's military experience did not have that if you remember. Networks ought not to run things of dubious content without the politicians endorsement so there is some one to hold accountable.
