Ijcoffin, I would take it a step further and say those of us in the rich nations ignore or only marginally assist the very poor of the world. How much food do we waste every day in the U.S. alone? I was just thinking about this last night when I was cleaning up from dinner. We have SO much extra food. What I was throwing out, (a plateful of leftovers) would have fed an entire family of four for a day. Supermarkets toss food at enormous rates everyday. Granted there are problems with the distribution of food around the world, and certainly, selfish governments are to blame for some of this, however, we could do more on our parts to distribute excess to the very poor.

No. I don't believe I would cause world hunger. But I could contribute by being wasteful. Every time I am in town I see people in restaurants tucking into really big plates of fried food. And for the most part, a lot of it goes uneaten and this is dumped. A terrible waste of food ,money and energy. For my own part, I mostly cook at home, and then cook only what I know I can eat. Should I dine out, I order only what I know I can eat. And now corn is being turned into bio fuel. It would appear the vehicle is more important than the stomach.

There is enough food in the world for everyone to be fed, but due to corrupt governments, poor distribution of food, people are starving. Also, I think that there are a lot of good people in the world who are fairly well off (by most of the world's standards, anyway) who choose to do little or nothing at all.
I think many people are poorly informed on how most of the world lives and how many people die every day because of conditions related to poor nutrition.
You can get a pretty good meal in parts of Sierra Leone for about 30 cents. It would be amazing if everyone would give what they could--if people would choose to live simply so that others could simply live.

Lack of food to distribute.
Lack of education to develop and cultivate crops and resources.
Abundance of greed to the officials assigned with the task of food distribution.
Food is used to gain power. Those who have a lot of supplies, extort the needy. If the needy have nothing to offer, they are left to perish.
Food is consumed by this country many times wasting so much and not thinking of those starving out there.

I think that selfish people who have plenty to give but don't give anything are the reason why there is world hunger.

Charity causes it. Some countries do not do anything, just wait until somebody will help them. And they do get help.
Somebody smart said "If i teach you how to fish - you'll be able to feed yourself, but if I give you a fish - you'll be hungry again tomorrow"..This is very true.

in one corner of world people fight with food, throw away edible food; on other corner they have no idea of fighting with it or have a fuss to throw away. It is attitude!
