My mom has a Singer Fashion Mate model # FM-22C. It is stitching straight lines but will not stitch when set in the zig zag mode. Can anyone help?

Sorry, I didn't ask the question very well. After talking to my mom, she says it sews straight just fine but on the zig zag it does not pick up the thread on the right side only on the left?

Try going to the Singer website and look up her machine by model number. You may be able to get information on how it operates and maybe order the manual if you don't have one.If you do have one then it should tell you how to set it for zig zag stitches. Are there any pictures on the front of the machine of different stitches? There should be a dial with pics.Try turning the dial (with needle up)and watch the needle to see if it moves from straight up to the left or right. If so then place a scrap of fabric under the needle, put needle down, and turn handwheel to see if it will zig zag.
Also you can call a vacuum /sewing machine repair shop.Explain the problem to them and maybe they can help you.Good luck.

You might have to put it on the stitch that has a light color line
under the zig zag. Don't forget to change your foot too so it
will go from left to right. Hope this helps since most singer
models have a color system to help with the switch from
straight sewing to detail styles.

If it has two dials, one of them is for width of stitch and has to be set higher, otherwise all it does is a straight stitch. You can set it for how far apart you want the zigs from the zags.
