Legalise cannabis and get rid of the alcohol!

Oh I hear you say legalise drugs what is wrong with me??

Well ofcourse alcohol is a drug and a LOT more damaging in every way than weed.

Just look at the facts.
Alcohol deaths in the Uk in 2004: 8,380
Cannabis deaths in the UK in 2004: 0
Cannabis deaths in the world since records began: 1

What happens when people drink too much?
They run about starting fights, beating their wifes, bieng loud/rude bieng sick everywhere, smashing things up.

What happens when you smoke too much weed?
You have a laugh then gently fall asleep.

Ok so cannabis has its bad points too...
It causes mental health problems in a small number of people.
but alcohol causes many thousands of people to become addicted requiring years of treatment to get them off it.

Cannabis causes cancer... well it dosent but it is smoked often with tobacco which causes the cancer but then this makes it no worse than the millions of people already smoking and giving themselfs cancer.

Driving with cannabis smoked is dangerous. Yes it is but nowhere near as much as with alcohol. A stoned driver is likely to drive very slow and may hit a few cars parked up at the side due to bad judgement.
a drunk driver is likely to feel like they are going slow when infact they are doing 80 and wont even notice the kid they just hit.

I think the age should be raised to 25 with severe penalties for anyone drinking under 25

All bars should be closed. Since 99% of people that go to bars, get in their car and drive afterwards.

And like in some states, no alcohol should be sold on Sunday.

There is no excuse to loose control or drive after drinking, if you loose control, or drive, you shouldn't drink.

The problem is the alcohol makers would pay off the law makers to stop any laws that would reduce their income.

Money is more important than lives.

it is not alcohol that is bad but the habit of getting drunk so alcohol is not faulty as a part of it is present in natural substances too so it is the human nature & control of a person that should be tamed alcohol as such exists as any other grocery in the stores once banned then ppl want to drink illegally & that causes more headache to the law protectors there must be an eradication program of addiction not of the alcohol .
i suppose it has to start off at every home with every individual trying to help the other come out of this deadly habit .

No. It has been tried in the USA (Prohibition) and it was an absolute disaster that gave rise to organsied crime and the enormous profits they made. People will always take drugs to have fun. However, there are already laws in place that make it illegal to serve alcohol to people who are already drunk. Sadly this law is very rarely enforced becasue it would bring the Govt. into conflict with business and they try to avoid this at all costs. Far easier to blame irresponsible individuals and politely ask the alcohol copmpanies and thier dealers to regualte themselves, which they will never do becasue no reaslitic business is going to reduce it's own profits.

no, they tried that here in the US with the prohibition and it didn't work. Are drugs banned? yes, do people still do drugs? of course. Do people get rich from selling drugs? Sure. they're expensive because they're banned. I don't think people should be punished for drinking, but they should be punished very severely for anything they cause by drinking. Meaning that if they cause a fight or any damage, the fact that they used alcohol should not help get them off the hook, but make the punishment way more severe.

i have no objection to people having a drink and a good time.but the question you are really asking is should there be prohibition?..well no because like the prohibition in America it would be extremely hard to police, and a black market of alcohol would be uncontrollable.no amount of policing or law would stop it.the answer is education..but how do you do that?binge drinking is a major problem..you only have to look at any a&e on a friday and saturday night..by all means go out enjoy yourselves, and have a drink or two, just dont over do it but please remember that next time i meet you when im on a night out with my lass, you had better not throw up all over her feet like last time..if you had not had a sensible friend with you who took responsibility for you and your actions and paid my lass £45.00 for new shoes, you would have been in casulty for a very different reason..i had one hell of a job to stop her kicking your head in!!

Alcohol consumption within the decent social norms helps a person to unwind. A person can sit in a bar with his friends and still may have orange juice and enjoy the party. Somehow, a person who controls himself out of religious taboo tends to think that he is more closer to God and becomes a fault finder. He becomes a social outcast.

If it were (like they tried in the US years ago) you would find a black market for it.
Banning is not the way, you just promote people to transgress laws. We need to be, more then ever, educate on the dangers of drinking. I'm talking about health, road accident, just plain agressive behavior, etc. If it is done in moderation there's plenty of benefits, however. It's part of social events, it brings people together, a glass of red wine is good for the heart, etc.

Remember, people will break the rules if they are too severe, and this would be a case.

If you knew history, even back to the 1920's, you would know that it is not a good idea.

The same thing that is happening with illegal drugs, occurs with alcohol, only 20 times worse.

Enforcement costs a fortune and it does not work. It also supports organized crime.

The only way to get organized crime out of the system is to price them out, by legalizing.

We tried pohibition and it failed miserably. It just so happens there was an article in yahoo I was just reading that stated
"WASHINGTON (AFP) - People who consume alcohol earn significantly more at their jobs than non-drinkers, according to a US study that highlighted "social capital" gained from drinking.
The study published in the Journal of Labor Research Thursday concluded that drinkers earn 10 to 14 percent more than teetotalers, and that men who drink socially bring home an additional seven percent in pay."
