Literally, they are : Komodo dragon, Horned dragon (aka Great Horned Lizard, aka Horny Toad), etc, etc. ^_~
Spiritually, they are : Satan is considered a dragon, and the False Prophet is considered (symbolically) as having the horns of a lamb, but speaks as a dragon.
Biologically, they were : That was the word to describe "dinosaur" before that term was coined.
Imaginarily : I'll pass. I'm not in the mood to fight off some giant western lizard who could step on me on an animalistic whim, or to debate philosophy with a fickle eastern legged-snake.
I don't see a problem there. ^_~

I'd rather have them be real, but have them inhabit only a secluded and sparsely populated region of the Earth, most preferably a large isolated island (this sounds like Monster Island from the old Japanese Godzilla movie series, where all of the famous kaiju lived in peace with one another, isolated from man...). But I'd have dragons be real without any second thought or any doubt whatsoever. The closest thing to a dragon that ever existed (so I think) was the dinosaur-bird the archeopteryx. It looked just like a dragon, but had feathered wings and a feathered tail. But that's the closest thing to a dragon that has been discovered as of yet. I don't think it breathed fire, though...

I would rather have them real because they make great friends and companions not to mention pets. also riding on a dragon with your hair stroked by the wind underneath the blue sky looks so cool.

It would be wonderful if the dragons of lore were alive today instead of lending their existence to fiction.

i would rather have real dragons. they're so beautiful, intelligent, and powerful. they could be helpful in every day life. dragons are protector that want to help mankind. if one were living they would make life much safer and easier.

I absolutely believe that dragons are intelligent, beautiful and for the most part, protectors of humankind. But, those few who had personality disorders or were just plain antisocial could make hiking problematic. :-)

I definitely prefer the notion that dragons were real, because if they exist how many other creatures might exist by virtue of their existence.

I believe they are real, or at least they once were. But I feel that their spirits still exist in this world, because I believe I am guarded by one.
To the poster above me, I don't believe that the world will be much safer. Humans fear what they don't understand, and kill what they fear.

Well it might be cool if they were real, but I dont think it would be much fun having a fire breathing lizard turn the earth into dust.
