I'm from Vermont so I totally see why you love it here! I'm from Saint Johnsbury and it is just lovely up here. I lived most of my life in Waterford and that is a really pretty town, especially in Lower Waterford. Barnet is definitely worth your time! So pretty especially Harvey's lake! Peacham is a great town too. I would defiantly go to danville. So pretty! Escpaily North Danville (gotta go to the corn maze! it so awesome and is on top of a huge hill! Definitely won't regret it!) Al Definitely hit the Northeast Kingdom (NEK). That's Caledonia, Essex and Orleans county. Very remote and pristine. My favorite drive is going to Lydonville and going up on Pudding hill and going into Sutton. Its so beautiful up there! I also head towards Willougbhy Lake. The gap is gorgeous in the fall! A really remote place that is just gorgeous in the fall is Victory. Victory bog and Victory basin in particular! Its really remote out there so I would only go out there if you really have the route planned out! As for places out side of the NEK, try Randolph. Right in the green mountains. Really pretty! I could go on and on cause Vermont is awesome! There are some books about driving routes in Vermont. I would check it out especially if your not familiar with the area. If you want more info my email is deano_vt@yahoo.com and I would gladly give you any! I love road trippin in Vermont so I know allot about it!

Route 9 is also a great route to follow that will take you thru some quaint small towns as well as showing you the colors of Fall. Peronally, I would get a road map of the state and look for a route of state roads that wander south to north. I would not take an interstate unless I was in a rush. Prepare to spend some time, it is their peak tourist season, traffic will be slow.
Consider the Mohawk Trail in Massachusetts, state route 2 from Greenfield to Williamstown. Stop in Shelburne Falls for the Bridge of Flowers and the Gacial Potholes as well as a few small shops. Travel west on route 2 over the hills to Williamstown and connect to Route 9 to Vermont. Been there done that.

It really is hard to go wrong in Vermont. My husband and I took a drive along Rte 100 last fall, it was very pretty. If you are driving into Vermont, stop at a Vermont Welcome Center - they'll have lots of brochures, and probably some will suggest good road trips for leaf peeping.

It is all beautiful. Head north on 89. White River Junction, Essex Junction. Any of those towns are nice. N.H. is beautiful too. Go towards Conway. A MUST SEE is Crawford Notch!

Deano has a great answer!
Just to name my fav, I love Bennington! There's a beatiful little hotel next to a cemetary there, but I can't for the life of me remember what it's called. Anyway, it was a great place to stay and a really nice town.
