First of all let me say how jealous I am of you. As a Cuban native, I am unable to travel back to my country so when I hear of others traveling to the land, I can only wish it was me. With that said, I can tell you that any of the beaches in Varadero will be great. Habana and Camaguey have a lot of history. Santiago de Cuba has beautiful hotels that will offer many nights of fun. Enjoy the culture, get to know the people. I do not know how much the government allows the tourist to do, but if you can, go venture out and get to know the Cuban people. We are proud people with much to offer. I hope you enjoy my country..have a safe trip.

Have you decided where in Cuba you want to go...or how much you want to spend? You could try Barcelo Solymar in Varadero. It is within walking distance to downtown and seems very popular. Blau Varadero is new and very nice but we found it just a little bit dull and the bars close at midnight..until November 1st. Breezes Jibacoa is a very nice little resort...its half way between Varadero and Havana..about an hour either way. The snorkleing is very good there...but it isn't a party resort full of singles. But its a great resort for having a relaxing nice time. Cayo Coco is nice..but you wont see much of the "real" Cuba unless you take some tours to the mainland. Your best way to check everything out is to go to SellOffVacations...it shows pictures, gives the dates and the prices. Then you could pick out what you like and go to TripAdvisor. You can see pics and read the reviews of people that have recently been at that resort. Good Luck and have a great vacation.

My husband and I have just been to Cuba and we stayed at the Barcelo Marina Palace. It´s really fantastic. They have great accomodations and the space is beautiful. It has beach and about 3 wonderful pools. They also have different types of cuisine: italian, spanish, seafood and native restaurants that you can use ( as long as you have one of those all included packages). Apart from that they have the hotel`s own restaurant where there is a wide variety of food. Also they have a disco, a cubane club (simply beautiful) and a few bars. During the afternoon, close to the pools they have two chefs making snacks (hamburger, hotdogs...). The people are very nice and at night there is always a show with music and dance in the hotel`s own theatre. It is also opposite to the marina.
It is in Varadero and although it`s a bit distant from the centre of the city you have a turistic bus going by every 45 minutes. You can use for just 5 pesos and ride on it all day long from 9 am to 9 pm. It stops in the main attraction points of the city.

If you going to Varadero only, I would advice a small excursion to Havana, Cayo Blanco (where they stop at high sea and you can go swim with dolfins and make snorkelling), Santa Clara (where you can see Che Guevara`s mausuleom) and Guama.

I hope I`ve been of some help. Hope you enjoy your trip as much as I did. Don`t forget to take some pills for headaches, stomach aches, fever. And always put insect repelent on yourself because of the mosquitos.
You`ll love the country and especially the people - they`re great.
If you choose Barcelo Marina Palace say hi to Kenya and the other public relations people for me (Carla and Marcio who were there between 5 and 12 of September)
