How do you find out what your characters stats are in D&D??

In a normal game, you roll them. each stat comes out between 3 and 18, with race bonuses they can go as high as 20. Your DM or the Player's Handbook or Dungeon Master's Guide will have methods for rolling up stats. You need some dice and scratch paper.
