I really don't mean to sound rude, but lately we have had several girls at school say they are practicing Wicca. It's a group of 6 or 7 girls. Every last one of them are extremely overweight, and very homely looking. A friend from another school said the Witches at his school looked the same way. I'm very curious what draws these types of girls to wicca?

I'm a 15 year old male, who has never really had a religion...but I do believe there is a God...(a creator of some sort), to those of you who where questioning that.

Heck, I never knew this would be so offensive. At least I didn't call them what the rest of the school calls them...If you think homely and overweight are bad words, you should hear what everyone else calls them.

Many Wicca girls are Lesbian too. I own a Theatre/Playhouse and have a very diverse group of people working for me. Most of the Lesbians are either Atheist or Wiccan. And yep, they are all huge beasts too. Oh, and they all have red hair. Not the Atheist, just the wicca's. They are pretty good at lights and set construction, so I leave them alone. Any one of them could probably take me down!

Why are there so many homely Christian, Jewish, Hindu, Muslim, Buddhist, and girls from many other religions? Your question is a bit typecasting, don't you think? ;-)

I would say these girls feel social and peer pressure because of the way they look and are therefore drawn to Wicca because it is a very accepting belief system. This does not mean they are Wiccans in the true sense of the word any more then saying your Christian or Jewish makes you such. Wicca is a life journey, not a destination. It is a religion of self-discovery and transformation, not just wearing black and sitting in circles casting spells.

Yes, many Pagans (of which Wiccans are considered) are hippie-types that don't wear allot of makeup and dress very casually, this is probably because many of them are very down-to-earth people to whom the whole buying into societies ideas of what is attractive doesn't ring true with them. However I know some very, very hot Wiccan women. My wife among them. She doesn't dress hippie-like at all, gets her nails done every two weeks and shops at name brand stores. You would never know we are Wiccan just by looking at us any more then you'd know someone is Christian, Jewish, or an agnostic just by looking at them.

Hope that helped a little.

Come on now, you knew this question was going to offend somebody.

There are pretty and ugly people in all religions. Fiona Horne is a Wiccan, and she's not ugly! Most people would consider physically attractive.

God judges what makes a person beautiful from what's on the inside. The late Mother Teresa of Calcutta probably isn't what most guys would consider pretty, but on the inside, she was probably the most beautiful woman that lived in the 20th century.

Maybe the girls at your school feel picked at, and they find an escape in calling themselves witches. They don't really have magic powers, it's just a fantasy.

Just be nice to them, they probably get teased enough.

As an overweight teenager I was drawn to Wicca because the chritians in my church were so mean to me and always making nasty comments about my weight and I thought it was hypocritical of a religion that preaches "love thy neighbor" and "only god shall judge" so I went looking for a less hypocritical religion who would except me regaurdless of my weight or physical appearance. So I imagine they were drawn to it for the same reason, to find exceptance...Now that I am older and have a better understanding of the world I don't think all Christians are hypocrits I just think that many of them (especially the young) forget the teachings of their own religion in daily life. I am by no means a perfect wiccan but I try to follow the basic principals of the religion as best I can every day not just on Sunday when somone in robes is watching.

They didn't feel accepted by the Christians, so they formed their own clique away from everyone else. I mean you'd never see the popular cheerleader in a high school being wiccan. It's because she's accepted by everyone. I bet among football players and cheerleaders the % of Christians is way higher than among the "outcasts" of the school. It's a very interesting subject. Pretty people don't have much reason to question their beliefs. There are always so many hot girls at Christian churches. They believe what the people around them believe.

Dude, that's a very good question and it leads to great insights into why people act the way they do with respect to their looks. Like why pretty people usually act friendly and bubbly and ugly people usually act isolated. The way we look has a lot more to do with our personality and beliefs than most people think. For example, if you're pretty, everyone always treated you nice, so you're nice back. Uglies tend to reject accepted beliefs and other people because they were always mistreated throughout their lives.

I volunteer at the local high school a few days a week, and We have a small group of "Wiccans" that clamor about. interestingly the gals at our school are also obese, and usually in need of a shower. I personally know the families of these girls, and their siblings dress and look like average students, (clean, neatly dressed etc) I imagine it is all about self esteem and obesity. A very large woman told me once that the bigger she got, the more invisible she became. Maybe shouting out Wicca at the tops of their lungs makes them "More visible". Interesting question

I'm sure the Bible Club at your school, or cliques of Jews and atheists, can't be confused with beauty contests, either.

Probably they're attracted by the same things that attract thin and beautiful girls.

I have met some rather attractive Wicca girls...and the difference between the Wicca girls and the born again Christians is that Wicca girls aren't hung up about sex....the put out....if they like you....but you they probably wouldn't like. you are too judgemental

Why, you biased little simpleton...I'm guessing you're christian, and what ever happened to your little rule of letting god judge, not you? You're probably just as homely looking to them, or more, because beauty is in the eye of the beholder, b*tch.

And as for all the "pretty people" in church, fornication is a sin to you, is it not? Half of you only pay lip service to your god and don't follow your own rules. I don't think I'd want to go to a church "full of cheerleaders"...Too many STDs...

Have a nice day.
