I believe the belief is 72, but its probably no more real than any other version of heaven.

I did, however, see a cartoon a little while back making reference to this. The caption was "The 72 virgins waiting for Osama bin Laden weren't what he was expecting." The picture was of 72 (or so) nuns with shotguns.
