Your wedding ring is closest to your heart. It is on the inside (put it on first).

The wedding ring goes on first - that way, should you need to remove your engagement ring for cleaning, showering, playing sports, etc., you do not need to remove your wedding ring. In the wedding ceremony, you will not wear your engagement ring - or place it on your other hand and slide it on after the ceremony is over.
Certainly, wear them any way they feel comfortable. This is how I was advised by the folks in the jewelry store - you wear your wedding band closest to your heart.

The engagement ring goes last, I don't know why. When I got married, I remember having to take the diamond off before the ceremony so that my husband could put the wedding band on. Here's what I did, it looks really good....get 2 small bands and put one on either side of the diamond. Hope this helps.

The traditional position (closest to your heart) is the wedding band first (at the base of your finger) then the engagement ring

The wedding ring goes first.
The engagement ring is a promise. On the day of your wedding you move it to your right hand during the ceremony. Once you are married, husband puts on wedding ring because now the promise has been fulfilled. You then put your engagement ring back on (or he does) after it.

Sometimes you can buy engagement rings that interlock and at the store they show you which way it goes. I've mostly seen where the wedding ring goes on the bottom, but really I think it's a matter of preference. It's a good question, but I doubt it'll jinx anything if you do it your way!
Congratuations on the engagement!

I think it is just personal preference. With the way rings are designed, it just seems to look better with the engagement rings on top. Most brides flip the rings at the reception.

Your band should go on first because it will be the closest to your heart. Then your engagement ring.

There's no hard & fast rule about engagement/ wedding rings. It all depends on what you like. It doesn't have any connection with a certain faith or belief.
