I watched both Datelines "to catch a predator" as well as the Debra Lafave media hype.

I think that these two situations are not the same and that there is a double standard both due to my gender, the gender of the "predator" and the gender of the victim.

First of all I find it ridiculous that law enforcement bothers to set up sex predators by egging them on - pretending to be young pre/ post and pubescent girls who are "virgins" and "horny".
That is ENTRAPMENT - similar to calling up people and telling them that the bank is giving out free MONEY - and then arresting them when they show up.

For EVERY 1 "predator" the law catches there are at least 500,000 who are not caught - and at least a million who saw the Dateline special and won't be stupid enough to get caught in this manner - rather, they'll end up soliciting known hookers in their communities.

Because of the sex double standards MEN are demonized in the media for sex with girls under 18 as a legal convienience. What's the difference between a girl who is 17 and a girl who just turned 18 anyway? 365 days? One extra candle on the birthday cake? I think this is absolutely ridiculous and a way of merely placing more people in the PRISON INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX. If you can't catch at least 90% of these people then why bother catching .005% of them? ITS SIMPLY DONE FOR RATINGS. NBC lags behind FOX and ABC which doesn't have to do "specials" like this.

Furthermore, If the perpetrator is a MAN and the child is also a man, no one cares that its a child "victim" so much as they care that it is a momosexual situtation. Society HATES GAYS and are merely tolerant of gays because the law doesn't allow them to be attacked/killed anymore. TOLERANCE and ACCEPTANCE ARE NOT THE SAME THING.

There is an obvious double stanard in the Lefave case because Heterosexual males identify with the boy's desire to bang his teacher - especially one this hot. I had a sexual relationship with a 35 year old White/Jewish teacher who was extremely sexy/ petite and beautiful - not as hot as lefave but, hot nonetheless. If I was that kid I woulda done the same thing in fact, I would have done the same thing in my own life over again and again if given the chance to repeat it. Men are here to have sexual intercourse with women. Its that simple.

I believe the major detractors are women, especially mothers who are JEALOUS of lefave's looks. There is alot to be jealous of afterall.

I do not think catching male sex predators and catching female "predators" is the same because of the sex act itself. You aren't honestly gonna try and tell me that the boys in these situations weren't intent on getting their rocks off all over the female teachers are you? You aren't gonna tell me that the teachers RESTRAINED THEM or stopped them from saying NO and leaving are you? I hope not cause that would be ridiculous. In my own experience, I enjoyed every second of it - from her moans of pleasure, so did my teacher.

Before you tell me, IF I WAS A PARENT I'D REACT DIFFERENTLY, I'll just say that if the boy in question was my son and he got it on with Debra, in front of his mother, I'd act upset, BUT, behind her back, I'd give my son a High 5 and a "MISSION ACCOMPLISHED" banner for his room. So long as the teacher wasn't UGLY. If she was ugly, I'd smack him in the back of the head and ask "what the hell were you thinking". I'd also try and sue the school board so I could get a brand new Lamborghini Murcielago.

If it was my daughter however, I'd probably get my pistol and find the guy. Yes there is a double standard. I must however assume that if I was a girl and I had a crush on my teacher, the situation would be reversed and I wouldn't have any hostility towards him - especially if I was throwing it at him. I think society should allow the children themselves to make the decision whether or not to file charges because every situation is different and in many cases, it is the children who WANT these things to happen. Most males on Yahoo Answers are replying to my questions with "YEAH I WISH I COULDA HIT THAT" and "I WOULD HAVE DONE THE SAME THING".

Having actually been EXPERIENCED with STUDENT TEACHER relations as a 16 year old student, I KNOW WHAT I'm TALKING ABOUT. SEXUAL ATTRACTION BETWEEN PEOPLE IS AN ODD THING and the media doesn't respect the different nuances.

The Debra Lefave case is a mixture of SEXISM, AGEISM and RACE as much as it is about pedophilia.

Toni Lynn Woods - a horrible looking, overweight West Virginian woman got the book thrown at her for sex with a male student.
When you see her picture, you can't help but wonder what the kid was thinking since she looks like crap.

However, Lefave as you understand benefits from being an attractive White woman. As we all know - she will face none of the persecution that non-White / white males would normally face. And yes, pretty much every guy out there who is heterosexual would want to jump her bones.

The media circus is just a ratings grab. I'm suprised this chick wasn't doing pornos in the first place.

I agree with you that there IS a double standard, but after all, it exists in virtually everything that is male vs female. (ie females receive lower pay than men for the very same jobs).
But this is why many females, especially mothers, are outraged that this child molester is running around and not in jail. (Lefave).

Media is attracted to stories that produce sensationalism and controversy, but it is up to the law in the state or county where the child molesters who were "entrapped" on dateline, how to catch the predator. They have to catch them somehow. Also, it is the same as catching predators on line when they think they're talking to an underage victim, but are really talking on line to someone who is setting them up.

Child predators are usually someone the child trusts, knows, and has a relationship with. This is one reason why betrayal of trust and the adult in the situation is wrong for betraying that child's trust.

No, I don't believe underage victims should have the ability to decide to have sex with these predators. Children are not emotionally equipped to handle sexual encounters. And they are often ruined for life and the cycle repeats itself for generations.

If adult men choose to solicit hookers because they can't sexualize a child, that's their business. Either way, molesting a child is absolutely wrong.
