this has happened before but not for quite a while. this morning i took my regular meds as usual (around 8am). all day my stomach felt queasy. i went to the toilet and had a bowel movement around 2pm and noticed one of my pills floating in the toilet. does that mean something is wrong?

It means your digestive system is moving food through rapidly. Are you taking any supplements for weight loss?

Bowel Movement Pills

One option: If it's a capsule, especially extended release, you may just be seeing the shell that is always expelled, but normally not visible because you do not usually have loose stool and it is usually not able to "get away" from the rest of the movement.

Also, consider that the pill shell you saw today was not necessarily from this morning, but yesterday.

UPDATE:
Oxycontin is a controlled-release tablet, which means it would most likely leave behind an undigestable shell or casing. For more info on this drug, see the first link below.

Topamax is available as a regular tablet or "Sprinkle Capsule" - I'm afraid I'm not familiar with the term, but sprinkle caps also appear not to be digestable. Drug info in the second link.

I worked at a pharmacy for a few years.

A lady called one day, saying she was passing one of her meds, whole. She was worried about it. I told the pharmacist, and he told me that the particular medicine she was taking, was designed with a little hole in the pill, that releases the medicine through it, and you pass the shell. This might be the same thing you're experiencing.

I remember hers was a big, flat red pill, and I could be wrong, but I think it began with a "P". The tiny hole can actually be seen if you inspect the pill closely.

Feel free to call your pharmacy. We used to get calls all day about medicines, and if the pharmacist isn't busy, they can answer the question right away. Or, lookup the pill at http://www.wikipedia.org or http://www.answers.com and see if there's any plain info there about it.

It should take longer than 6 hours for anything to pass from your stomach to your bowels.
Go to your doctor not only are you not getting your medication, there is something not right with your digestive system.
Better safe than sorry

your body is obviously not breaking down the outer coating of the pill. tell your doc so they can prescribe something else... in the meantime keep taking your meds with lots and lots of water... this will help.
