It's a holiday for thrills -- you're SUPPOSED to get scared but it's all in fun, like a roller coaster.
We decorate the house for Hallowe'en -- skeletons, piles of skulls, gravestones, floating zombies, blacklights, fog machine, you name it.
It's chilly and the leaves have turned -- at least here in the northern hemisphere.
The smell of hot wax inside a pumpkin is intoxicating on a cold night with the tang of autumn in the damp leaf-scented air.
You get to walk through your neighborhood (nowadays I do this with my kids) and greet your friends and neighbors, giving them the best wishes of the holiday season. Or as Dickens said about another holiday, but it applies here:
"It is required of every man," the Ghost returned, "that the spirit within him should walk abroad among his fellowmen, and travel far and wide; and if that spirit goes not forth in life, it is condemned to do so after death. It is doomed to wander through the world -- oh, woe is me! -- and witness what it cannot share, but might have shared on earth, and turned to happiness!"

Me right before Thanksgiving - for all the feasting. I've loved Halloween since I was a wee one. When I was young the whole month of October had a kind of spooky but cool feel to it. Perhaps I could feel the season changing - or I had too much riddlin.
I loved dressing up in spooky costume rather than something cute and stupid. Halloween is about spooky stuff - not smurfs or power rangers. You gotta to scare away the evil spirits and a Tinkerbell outfit ain't gonna cut it.
I trick-or-treated till I was 12 then again in college when it was cool to be a kid again. I used to get gobs of cany that I often still had till easter.
My favorite Halloween show was "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!" I wrote a twisted 20 years after account of what happened to Linus a few years ago.

Halloween is the best however very different than I remember as a child, I miss the spooky houses and how much everyone seemed to decorate their houses...I think people were bore festive before.... I am 22 and have my own place, no kids.... and I am the only one on my street who decorates for Halloween... or Christmas for that matter...

I used to but not anymore. It's so difficult to take your children trick or treating anymore because either they get beat up for the candy or you can't trust the sickos anymore. This year we are taking our little girl to a nature conservatory to do a Halloween hike.
