Who here think that gangster rap music is one of the worst things in the black community. It's just so ignorant and ridiculous. The fact that the people who "sing" the songs get rich amazes me. If you don't think it's a bad thing, then please explain why.

I'm with you. I think that gansta rap music only hurt blacks more than anything. I agree it is very ignorant. I don't see how anyone would want to be portrayed in such a way and actually think that It is cool? Rediculous indeed.
I listen to some rap, but not gansta rap. People like Mos Def, Talib Qwali, Common, amoung others. You know, rappers with something positive to say.

It's not just rap, it's also poetry, it's an expression, it's people's feelings. Some people have been through rough times in their life and thats how they like to express it. You have to see things first hand before you can judge whether or not something "is one of the worst things in the black community". Meaning, some people grew up more unfortunate then others such as getting abused, having no relationship with their parents, or living in the worst neighborhoods because they couldn't afford anything else. Now, there is SOME rap that doesn't make sense both verbally and mentally. But, if it sells, then no one can stop them from making it because it all comes down to money. It's the individual's choice. If you don't like it, turn the station. I personally am a fan of rap and r and b. I have no problem with it, but I do see what your saying.

Keep in mind here I'm a guy who loves rock as well, and I'm not a fan of gangsta rap. But who really cares? This is a free country and let them do what they want. Personally I dont like the music but some of what they rap about is true. They rap about weed, alcohol, and bitches. What's wrong with that? I wish more rockers would tell the truth and sing about all the weed they smoked, or getting drunk, or banging women. Actually and what's worse about the black community than rap is the crime and poverty. Rap music is far from the worst thing.

I've never been a big fan of rap. but the "old school" rap from 25 years or so ago when I was in high school was much better. the worst thing about the black community? no, I don't think so. what I think is horrible is how "gangster" rap seems to glorify violence, drinking and drug use, and disrespects women so much.
I also personally don't like it because I prefer singing.

I listen to mostly Jazz, Gospel and Rock, and some rap(depending on who it is), the reason why I can't stand to listen rap for no more than 1 minute and 30 seconds, is because afterwards I feel like my butt isn't big enough, my skin isn't light enough, and I also feel like my ears has just been raped because these gangster rappers make me feel like I am a black b****, and ghetto because I am simply a brown woman with goals. So, yeah I hate gangsta rap, it singes my nerves...

I am a music lover, except country. I think that rap is a great way for these kids to express what they see and hear in their daily lives. Maybe you shouldnt judge the words before listening to the truth being told

I'm a big fan of gangsta rap myself, what about the death metal that is disrupting ppl today, satanism and violence to Christians. Didn't you see the program on Discovery on Death Metal last night?

i say whatever floats ur boat; rap music or the artists who sing them aren't the problem. the problem lies w/ misled, low self-esteem kids who actually buy into the hype.
