I wish I knew the answer to that question. I am wondering the same thing myself. I have a had a close knit group of friends for the past few years and thought they were all my best friends. I am quickly realizing they all only care about themselves and much of the advice they give me is negative. Its hard to let go when you have been under the assumption that these people were almost like family to you. But then after you cut the ties you realize you are better off. I would rather have 1 genuine sincere friend then a group of shallow selfish people. Best of luck!!!! : )

Look for that 1% who you say are not selfish. So you have come to yahoo answers searching for an unselfish friend? Let me tell you, Yahoo Answers is itself selfish motive of yahoo to make us bring up all questions that a person can ask and makes us answer them as well.
You Know maybe they will sell these answers back to us after setting up a new website, just like answers.com/wikepedia.com etc. This itself is a tricky selfish attitude.
So the world itself is selfish my friend.

Folks are only selfish if you give them opportunities to be selfish. Sad to say, however, the only true friends you'll have in life are the ones you went with to elementary and secondary schools. After that stage friends come and go.

I hear you. You know what my dad said when I told him that in high school?
"That's what all the selfish people say"
If you want to meet genuine friends, be one yourself. That means don't bail on your friends just because they are selfish. That would make you no different. Then how would they learn to be "unselfish"?
Consider yourself lucky to have friends at all, everyone is flawed!

If I really knew I wouldn't be here, I would be with them. But I'm a decent person, I have met a few good people in my life, and I like to think that I am one such friend.
If we ever have the luck to meet then maybe I could prove myself to you.
But I sometimes think that every person have their own image of a genuine friend, although I can't completely prove this yet.

It is natural for people to be selfish. You should always think about yourself and take care of yourself first. Love yourself first.
Selfish people can be great friends. You don't REALLY expect people to think of YOU first, now do you?

Everyone is selfish--only some people don't realize that in giving another a gift, you also give it to yourself.

That`s what Jersus is for. Find a good Church. Christian friends are very loyal and sincere, but not perfect. Give your life to Christ, maybe he is trying to tell you something. You will never be loved by the world, believe me. God is the answer to your dilemma, will you trust him?

First, get the idea out of your head that 99% of people are selfish.
Then you wouldn't be so angry.
