Well, that's why so many people come to Yahoo Answers. They want to find the 1% that isn't selfish.

Well, 1% of the world is still a lot of people. How many people live in the world? Like, billions? So all the non-selfish people can put balloons on their heads or something, saying, "I'm not selfish" and then we can all walk around until we find each other. Or maybe we could all meet somewhere, like at the Eiffel Tower and eat chocolate croissants.

Yeah, I've dealt with selfish people all my life, and it really messed my head up. Nothing like having a mother who gleefully throws you to the wolves instead of being nice and smoothing the path for you. I think a lot of crime would be eradicated if everybody were just a little more generous, I mean emotionally (though literally would be nice, too.) All this posturing, this "what are you gonna do for me," this, "you gimme first and then I might give something back"...what a downer. I try to be generous and let karma do what it will, but really, I'm a little sick of not getting back what I put in.

But I know a lot of my problems stem from being around selfish people--it doesn't matter how much you give them and what you do for them, it's never enough and neither of you will be satisfied. Oh, well. Stingy doesn't suit me, so I guess I'll keep looking.

Though it's true that really good friends can be hard to find, there are some out there. A true friend will stand the test of time. Did you have one or two really good friends during childhood? Sometimes it is worth your while to reconnect with friends from your past. I did this about a year ago, and it was great fun to catch up on what each of us had been doing over the years.

What do you mean by selfish?

I can't really tell you where to find genuine friends because in my case, I kinda stumbled onto the really good friends I have now. But if you want to talk just contact me.

By being one yourself. Because a truly genuine friend remains a friend with those who have difficulty. Also check your definitions of genuine and friend...perhaps you have a different definition, and therefore different standard, of what you consider a genuine friend to be. Do others share the same standard, do you share this definition with people so they can meet your expectations? Unfortunately we live in a world of self interest and self worship, but that doesn`t mean you have to be like them...use Mother Theresa as your example...she was a genuine friend to all, but did not look for friendship in return. We behave as genuine friends to others because that is what is right, and good in our character.
