I need some ideas for my son's 8th birthday party. I have not done anything "special" like I have for my oldest son, (took his whole baseball team to see a minor league baseball game), I dont have alot of money right now (go figure school just started..lol). His birthday on Sept 27th, that's a Wednesday.

Have a pizza party. Buy the ready made crust. Place the ingredients in a row and let them create their own pizza. For one overnight party we had breakfast pizza out of sausage and eggs.

Gather ingredients for taffy apples. Place the ingredients all in a row. Let each child put their own ingredients on their apples. Let each child make two. One for the party and one to take home.

Have ingredients like crushed nuts, small marshmallows, various small candies, crushed cookies and candy bars. You may want to dip the apples in the taffy for them.

If the kids are too hyper, let them take the apples home and eat them there. :)

Rent your son's favorite movie or movies. Get kids things from the dollar store. (candy, small toy gifts, crayons, etc) Wrap lots of these up in the comic strip section of the newspaper for prizes. When the movie is over, quiz the kids on the movie. Ask simple questions so that everyone gets at least one prize.

Go to Donna's Day http://www.donnasday.com/donna/home.shtml)
and your search will be over.

The "Donna's Day" website and television show is very helpful when it comes to fun for kids.

I know it will be a fun party. Remember to take lots of photos.

Honestly as long as the kids can be together and run around they'll be happy so don't feel bad about the inability to do a skate or pizza party. Your son is old enough now that he'd love to give you some input on your ideas so you "don't embarrass him." That being said, he'll be happy with the cake and stuff. 1. Plan a cool treasure or scavenger hunt. Divide the kids into 2 groups and give them clues. There should be a prize for the winning team. Also, Capture the flag is tons of fun too. 2. Any kind of sports theme usually goes over well with boys that age as they can burn some energy. You could always truck it to the park if you have one close by or just do whatever in the back yard... baseball, football, basketball, soccer. Just have sports equiptment or balls out and they'll play with it on their own. 3. Go old school.. pin the tail on the donkey, musical chairs, pinata, pop so many balloons only by sitting on them etc. Give prizes to winners (little stuff...even sweets can be prizes) 4. Cooking projects : ie get some disposable trays and they can make their own pizzas. Have all ingredients on the table. can do the same thing with lasanga, icecream, anything. 5. Pankcake or egg races. Egg races are done in teams with spoons, pancake races are relay style as well, but you hold the pancakes on a spatula. We did do-nut races one time. Hands were tied behind our backs and donuts were hung by a string on a wooden pole (2 people held up). You had to run and eat the do-nut, no hands without losing any on the ground. Run back and your teammate would go next. Super silly, but very fun for all ages. 6. Obstacle Course Set up a series of silly games like above and have all the boys compete against each other. 7. Video games are cool, but they won't be too active. Well, good luck! As long as the boys can goof off and be loud they'll have a good time. Get input from your son. Have fun and try not to stress

Celebrate it on the weekend before his b day. What about renting a section of the skating rink? They can all skate-play laser tag and have a great time. Invite all his class and his friends and that way they can run wild and no clean up for you! Take the cake and icecream there! Afterwards stop and get a few pizzas for everyone!!!!! This wont cost a whole lot and it should make him extremely happy! Good luck

Try to think of something that would be super special and messy. Most 8 year old boys I know loves messes!

You could do an art project and let them go crazy with paints. You could even get some cheap white tshirts and let them paint shirts. What would be super cool (and super messy) is let him paint a wall in his room. Even if you just have all his friends put their handprint on the door, that would be cool.

I don't know if boys would like to decorate cupcakes as much as girls, but you could put together some sort of make you own dessert. Let them use as many sprinkles and chocolate chips as they want! You could even let them have a whip cream fight, maybe.

Most 8 year olds I know aren't concerned about expensive things, they just like things that are cool and special. And messy.

Pick a fun theme and run with it. like PIRATES...get some old junk jewelry or plastic beads and hide the "treasure" for the kids to find. Cut up a sheet and make a pirate flag, and some little pirate bandannas for the kids. play "walk the plank" using 2X4 on the ground like a balance beam, only they have to do it while (think of something, holding an egg under their chin...make it hard) and make it into a relay race. Got a sandbox or sand table to dig for buried treasures in? I think you could have alot of fun with that for a boys party theme.

Take them to the local YMCA for swimming, then let them camp out in your back yard....you could use the grill and make smores or dig a little fire pit and have a campfire.
